From wiki:
"Having the same Greek origin are the scientific words empyreuma and empyreumatic, applied to the characteristic smell of burning or charring vegetable or animal matter."
= Burned flesh *insert sig* |

The rest from wiki:
"Empyrean, from the Medieval Latin empyreus, an adaptation of the Ancient Greek, "in or on the fire (pyr)", properly Empyrean Heaven, is the place in the highest heaven, which in ancient cosmologies was supposed to be occupied by the element of fire (or aether in Aristotle's natural philosophy).
Use in literature The Empyrean was thus used as a name for the firmament, and in Christian literature, notably the Divine Comedy, for the dwelling-place of God and the blessed, and as the source of light. The word is used both as a substantive and as an adjective. Having the same Greek origin are the scientific words empyreuma and empyreumatic, applied to the characteristic smell of burning or charring vegetable or animal matter."
Why are you ignoring the majority of it and plumping for some relatively tiny connection to the smell of burnt flesh lol? are you sick in the head or what?

Well considering that it's factional warfare, we are talking about here.. I don't see the divine light part, but lots of burned flesh and burnt out wrecks... or maybe I'm just that sick *insert sig* |

If there is a biblical or religious meaning to something, then CCP probably intends to use that. Most of EVE's expansions have been named in this way. I think the only ones not were Red Moon Rising and Cold War.

Edited by: Aliana Valrena on 21/04/2008 16:53:56 Seems more to suggest the heavens being on fire image...i.e. the fighting brought about between the factions through factional warfare.
Makes more sense than burnt flesh to me.

Exactly, there are too many selectively reading Wikipedia "experts" on the internet.

This could be the first Eve expansion name that's made even the slightest bit of sense, actually.

Edited by: Aliana Valrena on 21/04/2008 18:21:11 Perhaps given the name's etymological connection to fire, a closer meaning might be "Age of Heavenly Fire" instead of "Age of Burning Epidermis" .

Here is my best guess: Devs have said it is not 0.0 space. They did say it would be new space and not current closed space opened. Empyrean refers to "high heaven." "Burned flesh" makes no sense in the modern literary use of the word. There have been many threads about boosting low-sec and there have been many threads about reshaping EVE so that empire hi-sec zones have low-sec separating them.
Taking this into account, I predict the expansion will be a new chunk of low-sec connected to the current empire area but above (if such a term exists for space) the current EVE galaxy plane. In other words, a low-sec shortcut through the woods to travel around empire.
If that prediction turns out to be wrong, what I really said was a mix of hi-sec / low-sec space above / below the current EVE plane that is tied into factional warfare and only accessible through alignment with a faction.

You have to be missing (thousand) a few brain cells to really think that "the Empyrean Age" means "burned flesh". Seriously, get a clue and change the thread title already.

Soooo....
New region(s) +Factional Warfare +Highest Heaven in the expansion title
= New extremely rich region of space is opened up and all factions scramble in there and start dishing it out, players do the dishing out there using sovereignty rules and such.
Now I am actually getting curious about the expansion just to see how wrong I am, lol. -------- Ideas for: Mining Clouds
