Hi
I am having trouble where eve will suddenly freeze on me and teh cursur will not respond, machine restart is the only way to get out of it. somtimes i can play for hours, sometimes only a few minutes and it happens. normally while docked in a station.
no events in event log, just recovery from unexpexted shutdown.
It's happened since the latest patch.
i am running:
Vista 64 Ultimate SP1 C2D E6600 @3.6ghx (watercooled) 4Gb RAM BFG 680i mobo 2 x 8800GTX in SLi (169.25 EHQl drivers) SB XFi XtremeMusic sound card
The SLi is a new thing, installed about a week before the patch.

Usual suspect is heat ,can you look to tempratures (sp ?) ,overheating vga/graffic cards while docked were common.

I'll check that out. I have GPU-Z and NVMonitor. Thanks.
Although airflow in the case is good (Akasa Mirage-62)with 2 120's in at the top over the rad, and 120s in front, out rear + teh exhaust from the cards. It's like a wind tunnel in there!

Edited by: Virgo I''Platonicus on 22/04/2008 18:46:04 Nah I'm having (and lotsa other ppl) same problem. With most of us the problem being the Realtek audio chipset on the mainboard (even though it's disabled because we're using another soundcard). Nothing we can do about it and i've been tearing my hair out because of it for 2 years.

Edited by: Virgo I''Platonicus on 22/04/2008 21:39:41 Me neither, but the problem persists in many other games, sometimes computer freezes without doing anything at all. SImply stops responding. I've checked a number of forums (different games too) and on most ppl come down to Realtek Chipset problem on mainboards.
Layman's description: computer freezes, screen freezes, nothing responds and weird sound repeats in speakers, real fast. Hard reset being the only cure.
EDIT: i've had it most often in EVE even though audio is disabled. No idea why and i've stopped looking.

Edited by: Cpt Cosmic on 23/04/2008 08:22:29 you realize that the gpu can handle up to 150 C¦ hardware side although the bios is set that if it reaches 110 ¦C the gpu shuts down? the intel cpu are set to ~81 C¦ and temps about 70-90 are normal ones for gpus under heavy load with ordinary/common cooling. that are standard settings nowadays and I think your system is cooled enough so its is not a heat issue for sure.
it sounds more like corrupt driver or memory problem. try different ram maybe or only one stick if you have more. disable SLI for testing purposes cause it doesnt work rly well on most 3d applications.
I would suggest install all windows upgrades to "fix" memory addressing issues of windows, clear drivers with DriverCleaner and install latest ones from whatever source and see if it happens again. |

#1. Does this only happen to you when you play video games? Does it happen during the use of ANY other applications? Surfing the net, playing music, etc...?
#2. You have a similar set as I do. The same problem happens to me when ONLY playing video games, ANY video game. The machine will make a horrible noise through the speakers, a stuttering noise, and then it locks up solid. Cold re-boot is the only way out of it.
#3. I have Googled this problem with minimal results, but not entirely. The closest I can get to this solution right now are sound card drivers. Update them. When I did it drasticaly stopped the freezes. Not entirely, but it helped alot.
IF...this is your problem as well, Sound blaster is aware of the problem. They also know the drivers they have out for that card do not fix the problem for all but most.
Good luck.

PSU: CoolerMaster Realpower Pro 850watt SLi certified, and checked amperage with a voltmeter - teh juice is there
GPU temps GPU#1: never over 78, GPU#2 never over 60 (it's newer - very cool)
#1. Just EVE.
#2. Just EVE, no other issues in other games (CSS, BF2142, Crysis, Total War, C&C 3, Bioshock(
#3. You may have a point, you XFI too?
The problem has now calmed, but it's doing outside of station instead of inside now, which is a problem on missions.

You seem to have SLI in common, is there a way to disable SLI? I have no idea about hardware though, just a thought. |

Have you tried disabling the Realtek sound card via device manager? ____________________________ I break things.

I Had the same problem. Managed to solve it though. I uninstalled all graphic card drivers (you migh need to use a 3rd party app like driver cleaner to get rid of all old drivers), rebooted the system and installed the newest available drivers(Catalyst 8.4 in my case) rebooted once again. Now it works like a charm for me!
