Fairly new to Eve, but not new enough I don't know my way around. Have a few questions, that hopefully can be answered here. I heard this game has great PvP and thats what I'm all about. Read a few things and ATM I'm Flying a Rifter with the usual frigate PvP stuff (Thanks to a couple guides.) Now I'm ready to move onto a bigger ship, what should I set my sights on? I'm Minmator as my race. Im looking for something that can solo well, but occasionally group up and cause some damage. Any suggestions would be great. If you can please suggest a loadout also. Thanks agian! ^^

Rupture would be a good starting point as its really the easiest (SP and real skill wise) to start off flying well.
Though I would reccommend either convoing me in game or finding someone else to talk to you in detail about what you have as far as skills, ISK and experience before you make a purchase.

stabber is a ton of fun, though it's best you not set foot in one until you have t2 mediums. and bigger isn't always better, wolf and jag (mostly the wolf) are pretty lethal.

TBH the next step imo. But again, it is mostly based on isk and sp, and actual skill.
I'd say rupture, then cane, then cyclone (if you want fun and lawls for gangs) Personally I dont like any bigger than that

You'll need MANY more skills than what you'd need for a ruppie or some such.
I'd suggest going like this
Frig -> Cruiser -> Battlecruiser -> Assault Frig -> Heavy Assault frig -> Command Ships
If you want to stay in the battlecruiser and below field. |

Yea, stop using facial emotes in titles and every other sentence. That'll get you farther in this game than any ship tips we can give.

Alright, thanks for the advice, helped alot. Yes, I know the frigate is the beginning, but rather than wasting my time in areas that I don't need to be, I rather cut to the chase.

There's nothing wrong with frigates, in EVE bigger isn't always better. I'd train up support skills first before jumping into bigger ships. Cap skills, navigation, tanking skills, gunnery skills and all that.
being good in a frigate is better than being mediocre in a cruiser, next stop would be a plated ECM drone Rupture, theyr'e highly underrated but don't have to be afraid of any T1 cruiser.

I would go for a battlecruiser. Reason is that you are able to tank the sentry guns (unless you only attack blinkies or war targets).
Personaly, I love the hurricane although I think it's more a support ship then solo.

The frigate is NOT just the beginning. Don't underestimate the power of the frig. Like you, I was keen to move onward and upward and quickly jumped into a Bellicose, then a Rupture and then a Hurricane. I was not ready for it and freely admit I tried to get too high up the ship scale too quickly - I had the ship but didn't have the skills to fit it and fly it effectively.
I lost the Hurricane within 8 hours of buying it (got the ISK back on insurance thankfully) but it taught me a valuable lesson the hard way. I went back to using Rifter and started training up the support and gunnery skills. I now have over 3 million SP and have a couple of rifters fitted out with T2 guns, T2 armour repper and other T2 gear and can kill rats faster than I can in a cruiser/Cane with rubbish medium gunnery skills.
I am now working on getting those Medium gunnery skills and basic Cruiser skills up so I can jump into a Rupture again. Rupture is IMO the next logical step after the Rifter, even though with low skills I had much more success with my Bellicose, believe it or not!!
Steer well clear of the Hurricane until you can at least fit it with some T2 guns and tank kit. But I guarantee that when you have flown the Rifter with good gear and good skills you will not bear to sell it on and will keep getting it out to play with every now and then :)

Edited by: Navanaxis on 22/04/2008 23:04:36 Yeah, I'm working on my T2 stuff for my Rifter ATM, but my next step will definatly be EMC drone rupture, I like the sound of that. If anyone else has any better suggestions, lemme hear em!

You'll want to be able to fly the cruisers for sure, but it will still be some time before you you can master them. For me, the next step up from my T1 frigate was interceptors. With the Stiletto, it should be much easier for you to survive (get away when things go bad); with the Claw, you should be able to gank faster and more efficiently than with the Rifter.

1. find a pvp-corp, so much more effective in learning pvp from expirienced players, and fun 2. train interceptors, alway usefull and needed in every gang, great fun too 3. train fleet bs 4. train hacs / other toys

PvP in eve can be sort of rough. Its great, its one of eve strong points, but it isn't like most games.
It's closer to bad sex. Usually an hour of two of foreplay followed by 5 minutes of disappointment. And the surprise at the end.
You learn to love it though.

Yeah I'm starting to understand what you mean. Have lost 3 rifters and only one kill. Not that I didn't expect to lose them or I'm whining. Suggestions on where to look for targets? .4 space I havnt had much luck, seems like there are always other pirates who wouldn't hesitate to blow me up. Or should I go to .0 space and look for some targets there, or would they probably be too big anyways?

Try can-flipping to get some easy kills, then move to lowsec; although i advise just sitting it out in lowsec, you learn quicker Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

Jump to the belts in high sec looking for miners, when you find something take from the can and then make your our can.
See if they take it back, if they do then you have the right to shoot them.
Watch it as I had a group protecting their ice miners and got whacked by a very skilled destroyer

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 24/04/2008 07:40:13 No, if they take it back they stole your ore hehe, and if they start shooting then you are allowed to 'defend' yourself. The trick to doing that when there's more around is to use the agression timers.
When you flip a corp can you're agressed to that whole corp for 15 minutes. Now if you can maneuvre in such a way that one of them attacks you a while after you flipped the can then HIS personal agression will be reset. If you move your mouse over the agression counter you'll see the different ones.
So to his corp you might still be agressed 12 minutes, but to that person 14 minutes. This is where you start to annoy them OUTSIDE their range, waiting for the corp timer to get to 0, since that means you have a 2 minute window to attack that 1 target.
Best way to do it is to burn 150+km away from them and make a BM, that's your "holding pattern". Warp back and forth a bit keeping them busy. Then when you're a few seconds away from losing corp aggro warp STRAIGHT in, when you come out of warp the corp agression will be over and you can freely attack that one target.
With a bit of luck the other guys are idiots and attack you anyway and get concorded, if you see that happen make sure you target them and attack them in any way hehe, doesn't matter what... NOS, 1 gun or whatever so you get the KM
Then laugh at heir stupidity. |
