From my IT experience : don't change the naming conventions in already running application. As stupid as naming may look after a while, during years of using it customers got used to it, learned it and became confortable with it. if you change it - you turn your customers into bunch of headless chickens for a while :)

I commented Sisi thread about certain name changes when they werent in TQ yet...
Why go half-way and not embrace the "easy to understand" naming formula all on.
"Launcher cruiser light meta xx"
"Launcher cruiser assault meta xx"
"Launcher cruiser heavy meta xx"
See? Everyone knows wtf it is, where it is supposed to be used and wtf it uses as ammo. Bonus points for simple meta level view instead experimental, advanced, caldari or pray tell, with some modules aberration like Estamel's. If you really want to keep the "silly" names of old, have them as "tag" at the end of the name, it's not like we're short of bits for naming things?
To end I just copypaste lazily from that post;
Heck just imagine how smooth talking about them would be;
"Why this change happened?"
"Because Recon ship, Force, Caldari."
and everyone would know exactly what the meme is about.

Whats with the "cruiser" in everything?
You may need to break this down for ccp even a bit more. We should explain that:
"Torpedo launcher meta 04" should actually be the meta 4 torp launcher and not the meta 2 rocket launcher.
Make faction war occupancy pvp instead of pve

Can it also coincide with missiles getting engine trails (and then ensure that they do in fact follow the Macross "mis-guided missiles" flight patterns)? |

To separate them from
"Launcher Frigate Light missile Meta xx"
Aka the pinpoint of whole issue, where we have ONE unique case where two weapon systems, aka light missile launchers(frigate) and assault missile launchers (cruiser) use same ammo (light missile.)
EDIT: Oh and just a reminder, this was all well and fine as long as there were not HAM's, those werent rolled in back when missiles as system were designed. They were later added by CCP to "bridge" the short range cap between rockets and (nerfed) torpedo range. Sad case in point how change supposed to fix things end up causing confusion due to way it is implemented. They could have called them *anything* else then HAM's but noo. |
