There was a bot slaughter, but from what I heard it affected mostly 0.0 ratting bots. Would be pretty nice if they finally swept up some of the Jita market bots that are on 24/7. http://blog.beyondreality.se/Incursion-hose Remove all incursions from hisec |

I noticed similar, normally a couple hours after I logoff for the night my orders grid to a halt but it was noticeable last night that I had a slow but pretty constant stream of both buy and sells.

Hey fellow traders
I've noticed the same, orders not sniped for hours, across all types of items. Where they have been sniped I'm seeing less frequent updates, more consistent with someone checking their orders every half hour or so. I am not seeing whole stacks of orders moving every 5 minutes they way I'm used to. But there isn't enough data to go on yet to determine if this is a fluke or something else.
If it's true that CCP has finally taken action against market bots after all this time, then we're seeing just how staggering their impact on us human traders has been.
I hope that CCP realize how big a problem bots are - and if this is actually what Jita is like without them - then I hope that people will never allow it to go back.

Don't get too excited, bots will be back and if ppl catch wind of Jita being more trader friendly again, human competition will pick up considerably. I've already stepped up my trading activities there since I found out. Many more will follow, nullifying a large portion of the banned bots. |

To echo KrakizBad, that is indeed entirely acceptible and I have absolutely no problem with playing the market against other players. People make mistakes when .01 isking, bots don't :-)

It's good to see some of the bot's gone and the .01 that goes with it but in truth there is no entrepreneurial mechanic in EVE. There is room for competition but we can't make a product better than it is. We can't create a market for a manufactured or even farmed module or ship if the stats say it's fail. We saw how quick the capitalism aspect of the Tier 3 battlecruiser came and went because it was a base T1 mineral product.
The last true venture market for EVE was T3 and that was years ago. Where people had to procure from scratch and try and command the markets. If CCP end up wiping out all the bots it may only serve to expose just how controlled the markets really are. |

.01 ISK isnt about profit and capitalism in EVE markets. it's about control of them. While removing the control mechanics is fine, the core problem still remains. Bots every 3 minutes gone will allow people to compete but there is no lack of that now, even without bots. The issue is in the markets truly available.

I have an alt in Rens too. I've not checked lately to see an impact - However the reason I chose Rens was because I didn't have to baby sit the orders. I recently tried some station trading at Jita and gave up as I really wasn't into the constant supervision. It would be interesting to give it a go again and see any difference.
One poster highlighted that if the change is due to the botters being banned, we should not allow it to return to what it was before.
Frankly, if it is the botters that had turned Jita into what it was, it would actually make me angry. Botters were stopping humans playing in Jita. Hopefully if this is the case CCP should be stomping harder on these guys. c'mon, it can't be that hard to spot them.
An alt spotted a suspected mining bot. The fact the toon was always on in the same system always mining random ore when +5% and +10% were not specially targeded. Plus wouldn't respond to chats or bumps. Was part of a NPC corp etc really looked sus.
I reported it... toon was still on most of the time. He did change corps but nothing more changed. Would've been nice to at least get some feedback on weather I was right or not. |

If you had any brains you would be on the floor playing with them. You admit in a cheesed attempt to avoid responsibility that I know more about your alliance than you do because of corp and alliance dates and when I call you out you spam GM with some rambling bullshit about me being a bot. All they need to do is look at my 16 hr a week login time to figure out I am no bot but you keep slinging that mud Goon Jr. It seems to give you some fals esteem.

from what ive seen i what i see now i can say at least for a local bot that ive spotted has been banned
the problem is that the same player as now created an alt with a similar name "yotoo" and is now in action again with the same exact scam
if someone checks local can see it now doing that and it was created at 29.02.2012 (almost two day old now), after ccp banned a bunch of bots |

Im not that surprised that only a small number of bots had such a large impact on the market beyond the general massive number of potential market orders for a well skilled character.
I would actually guess that all the bots were run by a single person. One of the reasons behind this is competing bots from 2 different users on their own could cause the price of a single item to go up or down (depending on if they are buying or selling) by 9.2 isk per day (2[bots]x0.1[isk change]x20[potential changes per hour]x23[rough number of server up hours a day]). Now while this may not be a huge variation on markets where items are valued in the millions i assume the bots are likely to trade in items with higher volumes and lower prices for decent turnover. This also assumes that each bot only has a single market order for each item type.
Then factor in human additions and the price change increases further. Again its not a huge amount on larger items but it still adds up (~300 isk/month). Quite large variations for minerals or even a lot of moon mins. Admittedly this ignores orders being fulfilled.
I will admit im not really a trader and only dabble occasionally so i may have a very incorrect idea about what items they were trading in.

By no means an eggspurt (although professionally work in a very related area) but by and large hardware identification tends to be avoidable rather simply and can has the net effect of placing hurdles in the path of honest players whilst providing no obstacle to organised bot operators.
IP blocking, as you alude to, is of limited use when DHCP ranges are in play - CCP obviously can't go about blocking ranges from BT/Comcast/AT&T/Virgin etc. Similarly, avoiding such measures by popping out the end of a VPN tunnel is trivial.
Local hardware identification, eg mac-address or whatever is initially likely defeatable by simple VMware type setups or additionally is often the type of message which with a little more work can be intercepted and spoofed. Additionally you run the risk of red-flagging legitimate players every time they upgrade their computer.
None of this is to say that such tools can't (and likely do) form a basis for further investigation but without knowing further their investigative procedures (something which naturally we'll never know, nor should) it would be impossible to comment further. |

I have noticed that my orders are not as frequently .01 isked as well but has there been a DELAY put in place when you try to do simple item sales? When I now try to do simple item sale and right click sell item the sale window now takes between three to FIVE seconds to open and allow me to sell the item. Is that the new normal now? Last week I could sell almost as fast as I could click. Waiting 5 seconds to do a simple sale may not sound like a lot but do that for over 400 items and it sure adds up! It that worth doing a petition over? |

Browsing the market will rapid grow your cache, either clear your cache,
I use a market uploader which clears market items after they've been uploaded and leaves the rest of the cache intact. |

Iv noticed such a huge improvement in the market gameplay, its really, something extraordinary, thank you.
This is an incredible opportunity for CCP to tap into recruiting people from around the world to join eve and focus on the best market system of any game that I have ever played.
I would relish to see hoards of newbies flooding the forums asking for advice, joining in as my competitors and just see this game finally start moving forward!
Now, Which one of you CCP Employee's here stepped to the plate and became the hero of the day? |

In my opinion is seems to have had the opposite affect in Amarr. Seems to be more botters than normal. Perhaps some moved their focus to alternative hubs as a way to avoid CCP monitoring? |

Well, before any of this even started, I did complain about 2 characters using the same bottling program about 5 months ago pretty much everywhere and to every one. It seems CCP has silenced them, but the characters are Not banned, so I keep a warry eye on Amarr.
Amarr seems ok for the past week or so since Iv restarted playing, come on over, be my competition, keep local open, its the Chat hub of eden =) |

Interestingly, market inefficiencies work to the advantage of the seller. I had noticed particularly the last six months of last year that margins were veeeery thin, which prompted me to stop auto-piloting my product lines and actually start competing, and then all of a sudden it was like a money printing machine was restored to my empire alt and I can't even begin to keep up with sales. Obviously, any systemic change that DOUBLES my weekly profit while halving the time I spend 'earning' it gets my vote :)

Yeah... I noticed. Disappointing, but it's not like we weren't used to their annoyance already.
Hopefully CCP will clean these guys out quick. :D - Rei |

market bots definitely back. There's one in Rens that updates his market buy orders every 5-10 minutes 24/7, exactly matches the competitor's bid then adds 0.01 isk. I made him raise his buy prices all the way to almost sell prices (which no human would do) then dumped my stuff to him at inflated price. The guy kept logging in and out non stop for like 10 hours, I'm guessing some kind of bot glitch or the bot is programmed to go off and check periodically if it has money to trade with.
I reported him as a bot, and submitted a petition detailed the bot's behavior and got the standard copy and paste reply from GM: "We have this new feature where you can report a character as a bot blah blah"
It's only been a couple days but the bot is still active.
It really sucks having to deal with these guys. |

I am not entirely sure the CCP sees bots as something hurting the game (and thus hurting the fun players have while playing), hope i am wrong though. Even better, i hope to be persuaded by their actions, e.g. when i see all the bots not doing what they deserve ban for. But still nothing happening. |

Until last week I could just update my orders and at least 25% of them would be filled the next day.
Now, not a single order gets filled unless you continuously update them. |

This. All those bots made things cheaper this time last year. Fully rigged Rifter (and sometimes fitted) for ~80M this time last year was awesome. Paying 300M isk for an empty one is something other than awesome. |
