So, how many of you played SWG and on what server?
I'm a 4 1/2 year vet..been playing on Temepst for 3 1/2 of that. Just recently a few months ago I finally gave up on the game entirely. The NGE has gotten better, but it took a nosedive again in my personal view when they added instances. Turned it into a complete raiding game. Absolutely disgusting.
Even in the NGE, I would love the Bestine battles...

I played on Chimaera-Euro server and really enjoyed it right up till that pile of crap the NGE.
I was a Bounty Hunter doing Player Jedi missions and have never had as much fun in PvP as I did doing that.
Made myself nice and wealthy with an alt who was a Doctor selling buffpacks.
I don't miss it any more

3 years on Sunrunner. The CU wasn't too bad as alot of the same mechanics were still the same. Got tired of lazy guilds needing a Jedi to do high end content or the pvp which was could be described aptly as "fields of lightsabers" and a few CM's. The NGE was just a completely different game. Nothing even similar to the other versions.

Starsider player here since launch, however like many others I dropped it when they released the NGE.
Couldn't get into another MMO the same way I did with that game, until I discovered EVE.

YES! The Bounty Hunter vs Jedi days were a sad state of the game, but oh so fun.

I only played it during November and December of 2005, a full year after i started EVE. These were my thoughts:
I absolutely loved the extreme depth, and size of the Star Wars world. That's what makes a lot of Star Wars games so awesome is that there is so much story and depth behind it all, and they did a good job introducing that into the game. That's basically the only thing i liked about it.
Here were the problems. The character creation and development were SO narrow focused that it made creating a uniqueness almost impossible. You basically had something like 3 paths per occupation with what? 9 total professions? It's character path development is worse than WOWs. Also, when you create your character, if you make an "alien" character, specifically one that is really non-human looking like an ithorian, it's hard to make it look unique, so you don't see many non-human looking characters. Lastly, the quests or w/e that you used to skill up and get iskies were all so similar and repetetive, again, like WOW.
It was worth it for the month and a half I played, and it kept my attention longer than WOW did.
It's a shame that a Star Wars MMO was so wasted on SWG. Though, all my opinions and experiences come from the post NGE game.

3 year player here, on Wanderhome. Give you two guesses as to what my name was.
The problems SWG had (pre combat nerf) are much what Eve has. Missions/quests repetitive? Hello Eve. Unique characters? Are you kidding? Everyone in Eve looks the same.
The only thing that Eve has over SWG (and it doesn't really have that) is character training. Sure there were 9 professions..but you could be whatever you wanted whenever. You didn't have to just be one thing, and that is rare for an MMO. You could train Combat Medic (my personal fav) and pistoleer, and when you got sick of pistoleer, just go train rifles or frilly dress making or whatever. SWG was great, and I'd still be playing it if they hadn't broken it.
I hope you PVP or something, because the things you are saying SWG was lacking has EVE really lacking it.
Granted, I don't play Eve for the same reason I played SWG, so the things that were important to me in a game like SWG are not so important in Eve. It's a good thing too, because I'd be really disappointed if it was.

Ex Chilastra here.
Never had as much fun in any other game, loved the fact I could do anything I wanted effectivly, solo pvp/pve or group pvp/pve and still be effective and enjoy myself. It also had a great community.

Now like i said, i only knew the game after they changed it all, and i only knew it for about a month and a half, so obviously i couldn't have explored the game that thoroughly. You're right that EVE doesn't really have that much variation in what your character looks like, because it's only a 2D avatar, although i think that i recognize people's avatar more than i could recognize a character in SWG or WOW. Not really sure though. Because you don't have that variation in what your character looks like, your deeds and how you act in eve really make you your name. I mean everyone in EVE knows certain players because of their accomplishments or personalities. I don't know if SWG had this or not either pre-NGE or post. Lastly, yes EVE's missions get repetitive, but you don't need to do them to level up only to make isk, and there are sooo many other ways to make isk as well. So if you get bored with missions, you can move on to other forms of isk making.
What i really meant by SWG's lack of character uniqueness, was that post-NGE you had like such narrow pre-determined paths for your profession. I didn't think you could train multiple things at all... *shrug* I still enjoyed it, because of the Theme, and ability to just get lost on a random planet. My friends even started to make a town somewhere in the boondocks. |

Was on Farstar for some months right after the European launch.. was fun while it lasted, despite the hilarious imbalances (and general Jedi bull****, but there weren't any around back then really).
When nearly no one had good armor and zero buffs and you ran around in guild group full buffed via buff bot and nearly max res armor you could even own some Imperial lamer ****s with their AT/STs yelling "A" "A" "A" "A" and burst-running in the opposite direction. Only problem was lack of opponents...
I also miss my PvE uber mCH/flamer commando soloing EVERYTHING (lol at SOE taking an entire class out of the game)
also: all glory to the holy sharnaff! |

I wasn't, and I don't think anyone will remember us :P We switched over from DAOC for a while but got bored pretty quickly by aforementioned imbalances and lack of opponents in the beginning. Should probably have stuck around longer.. the crafting was wayyy superior (although not the group pvp). Most of us were only around for 2-4 months, and we were like only 10 people or so anyway

You may remember a city south of coronet called Sharnaff City that was used regulary by people grinding. I used to live there. _ EVE RELATED CONTENT |
