It appears they have the ability to limit the amount of players on to verify the stability of the game since the game is unreliable atm especially after this patch and hardware upgrades

I'm with you.
**** Once again, CCP demonstrates for us the essential folly of making major changes on Friday, as they also demonstrated the foolishness of "just-in-time" delivery of essential components.
Fair makes ya wonder how it was that Europeans came to conquer the world now, doesn't it?

ANGRY CUSTOMER COMMENTS FOLLOWS: THATS IT, I am bored of CCP's DAMN INCOMPETENCE. I can take the unheard of downtime in europoean rush hours, i can take the forever extending downtimes, i can take the ongoing resets, i can take the 12+ hour hardware update BUT I CANNOT TAKE THIS. Right now CCP is on my M$ equivalent book. Lousy support and the only reason I'm paying for this game is because of its great community. I'm NO LONGER recommending this game to anyone. I might keep on playing (and paying) and that will depend on how serious this company is. THIS IS NOT A BETA GAME, we're paying hard cold cash, and under NO CONDITION are you allowed to perform that bad. You have exceeded every last inch of my fellow-programmer support. I can say that i have a very good idea about servers and downtime, and right now only the 1hour standard downtime is against the idea of any service-offering system named "server". This is not a game server, this is an occasionally-servive-offering system, you shouldn't be asking for money. You have either to get more stuff on your team or do some serious lay-offs. "Upgrading/patching" is not an excuse for anything, you're not the only company with computers.
Polaris stay out of this, this has nothing to do with you.

If they are going to limit the amount of people to the game, then they should send a message out on the forum or somewhere in the news to let us know what the heck is going on.

Indeed. I get the same message.
All it would take is a nice message saying roughly why we are having this limitation forced upon us at the weekend... Last night, when the servers came back up the speeds were back to what they were (for me at least) when the game was only just released, and there were about 5k users on at the time - everything was smooth.
So now we have a limit so they can test for stability? I dunno, maybe something drastic went wrong after I logged for the night, but it seems everything was working fine then, so why can I no longer get into the server that we ALL pay to keep running? EVE is not a charity guys... we bought that new hardware so you could "improve performace" for the players, yet here we are unable to get in, and I can't find anywhere any warning that this would happen.
Even a haphazardly scraped together post saying something like "the server is messy, we need to limit the player base for a few hours, sorry" would do - hey that took me all of ten seconds to write, but I guess you don't have time to actually care about the community you are trying to support. ================

Locked out at 6000 users on cluster, what ever happened to the world record of eight thousand plus? This is the same dreck which I quit the game for almost a year ago. I thought this was over with. CCP please get you act together. Ultimately you are hurting yourselves.

This stinks, I don't think its right to be paying for a game that you can't play when other people are. I understand that when there are technical issues we all have to grin and bear it but if one person can't play then no-one should be able to. I don't pay for lottery play, there are plenty of free online games that do that.

Would you rather have CCP make sure that the server is able to handle everything properly, and run without problems, or just let 9000+ people log on just as new hardware has been installed and untested? Be patient, as far as MMORPG go, CCP is doing a great job when it comes to changes. ________________________ Hail to the king, baby!

first of when CCP says will be DT for X hours double or triple that and train a skill with that longer time at a min. When they say hardware changes that means God knows when they will be done. They posted yesterday it was over and now its not and from looking at eve-i.com its not a reboot from DT issue.
And the full cluster thing has happened in the past cant rem the reason given for it tho.

Personally I FEEL its time for CCP to start rebating or reducing subscription FEES next month for this lost time.

AWWWWWWWW limit on people playing eve hmmmmmmmm i know i have a plan. flights to icland anyone
i do remeber when beta testing this game dev said they could support 100,000 people now thats great as they carnt even support 10,000 people grrrrrr. about time seen as we are paying for this that they either No1 buy better servers No2 look at making eve space alot bigger to be able to keep the number of players in a single to a minerman. No3 isk payment for the loose of game time No4 bring all tech out in one huge patch and then test it WORKS.
no i'm not really that P****** at dev its a great game but loosing a 104mill isk bs due to cradhing and about 50mill isks worth of goods on it and 88,000 mega seems to think i'm going to hunt them down and kill them grrrrrrr

I am with you guys!!!
WTF is CCP doing. I understand the time to install new hardware, and even understand that you can fall behind the time giving out when installing.
But I want and explanition on why they limit the ****, while they have boosted the hardware to make it better. This is our money, and i feel robbed, when i cant play. I actually thought about writing them a letter for refund time on this. I have spend more than 3 hours getting in today. That 3 hours payment they STEAL from me. This cant be happening. Either they open up for the servers, or they stop the payment temp.
You are pros CCP. People love you for the game, for right now its going the wrong way!!!!!

axxessdenied, I dont have an issue with them doing it, I have an issue with them not telling us! I cant log in and nowhere can I see anything telling me that what you have all implied is true.
I am annoyed I cannot log in, as I was intending to get a few things doen while I had the time, but I noticed no warning that I wouldnt be able to play :( Jasp |

I get the same message at 6500. I just returned to the game last night, and after several system issues managed to log in for about 30min this morning, to them sending a sys wide message stating they were going to reboot in 5min. Now its 1pm EST, and I'd really like to log in to continue getting my affairs in order. |

Edited by: Monkiboy on 24/04/2004 17:44:52 This is to those who are complaining in this thread:
umm, yes, it's frustrating- but also keep in mind that Eve isnt like other MMORPG's.
Most other kinds of servers have smaller worlds, run on smaller clusters. Eve runs an entire world on it's servers. It's alot more complicated.
MMORPG's must have downtime and maintenance to support change. Anyone who runs an MMORPG must know this. Keep the "I'll never buy their products again.. blah blah blah" comments to slashdot where they belong. If you are truly bothered by this, mail ccp via their contacts page. If you're just complaining because you're losing precious skill development, then I ask you kindly- to grow up. It's just a game.

You know, I joined Eve last month because of the free trial on Fileplanet. The ratings were good and the game was pretty interesting and seemed pretty tight. Recently, however, my opinion is starting to change. I haven't been able to login for almost 2 days and now I get this cluster full crap!
I'm sorry, but my tolerance for being abused by gaming companies was used up by the likes of Origin and Verant. If this sh!t isn't fixed soon, I'm gone! I refuse to subsidize incompetance anymore. My new philosophy for ANY MMORPG I consider is, if I'm having fun, I'll pay. If not, I'm gone. We as consumers need to vote with our money and demonstrate that we will not tolerate unethical business practices by these gaming companies any longer!

From the Dev Blog:
"Today something fubbed in our raid disk arrays that caused them to start resynchronizing themselves. This is a heavy process and severely limits throughput.
The load however kept increasing drastically and when we reached 7000 users the throughput wasn't enough to handle the resynch along with the 7000. This caused the first crash.
We did some reboots that failed due to the massive load of players connecting at the same time, which is about the most intensive database process the player does, so we ended up starting with a limit, that we set to 1000, 3000 and 5000, now ending it at 6000. (Upd.: 6500)
We will slowly try to increase the number of players allowed but we will keep it limited until the raid array resynchronization process has finished. After that, we should hopefully return to the performance we witnessed last night ... and hopefully able to double that - soon.
We're pretty much prepared for the next ice-age down here in hell now, nothing short of an apocalypse would shake us up. We sincerely apologize for all this mess and appreciate your patience in this matter."

Edited by: Goldengamegod on 24/04/2004 19:22:22 Chill out they probably got sent a bad drive for the upgrade and it failed, this could happen to any on line game. I'm surprised more didn't go wrong as the EVE server cluster is probably the most complex on line game server they is.

I pay 15 dollars a month for this... that's 50 cents a day. Since this has been going on two days I want my dollar back. With that dollar I can... I can... I... can... um...
It is not we daily players that suffer. Now, the weekend warriors, who only get to play 8 days of the month and pay nearly 2 whole dollars a day...
Um...
I know, I know... it's the principle of the matter, not the money. They shouldn't do upgrades on a Friday... that's just a capital "Well, duh." Someday this concept will sink in to those who run MMORPG in general.
But today is not that day so we might as well chill out and get laundry and grocery shopping done. Or sit and fume in impotent anger until we get so frustrated we cancel our account under the delusion that this will make them care.

Hate to say it but, this type of thing will happen no matter what online game you are playing. I've played pretty much everything that's been out with the exception of EnB. The thing we as players don't look at is every line of code they write can be a double edged sword. It may look good at the time may even function as intend till the one thing that you didn't think of happens. I wrote code for quite some years no matter how many times you check or how well it was debugged and tested things will go wrong. Same with equipment or anything of that nature.
As for being in beta the very nature of these types of games will keep them in semi beta all the time. Now they could very well just take what we have add no new content do no balancing but get it running perfectly. Ask yourself though do you really want to play a game were everything becomes set in stone forever. Probally not most of you will answer no. Don't get me wrong I'm not taking their side I'm just saying running the game is more than just what we see.
Crap when I played EQ we nick named our server The Gameless it crashed a few times the boards fried once but, is that the companies fault. At one point it was down for like 3 days but in the end we still wanted to play when it was fixed. To tell the truth I was very angry about it at the time. Though looking at it logically problems will happen patches will not function properly everytime maybe not even once. Most likely every bug they squash will make something else not function properly it's what you live with. At the end of the day you decide if you want to pay your 15 bucks to them to continue playing or just look for something new. Though when you switch remember it might be something newer but newer isn't always better most mmorpg will have more problems when they start cause server projections and actual server loads are two different things.
my 2 cents
