Went for a little trip through low sec last night. Made some money, had a look around. Had a couple of*****tails in the station bars...
I thought low-sec was meant to be dangerous!!
Theres me, flaunting it in my tricked out Kessie. No-one even locked me!
Is it that I`m too fast for ya, chaps??
Anyway..the point is, have any of you got any good stories about seat-of-the-pants escapes from gate camps, or even any funny stories about inept camps having major fail at trying to snare us unwitting low-sec traders??

Honestly those camps your thinking of are kinda mythical. Its made up because of the Rancer gate camps and are usually peoples first low sec xp.

As a 1-month old player venturing into lowsec I agree. From what I gather in the noobcorp chat, it's only a few infamous systems that are really dangerous (Amamake etc.)
I've ran into 0 gatecamps and only 2 pirates. Once a Rapier warped into the belt just as I warped out, another time a -10.0 Megathron warped in 23km away but didn't open fire for some reason. I ran in a hurry. |

So...all the threads about "How do I survive ALL the ships smartbombing near gates", and "Dont even think about jumping in without a 2 second align time" is all hogwash then??

Try mining in Mara?
TBH long streaches of low-sec are near empty or full of farmers, dangerous areas are high sec>low sec and low sec>0.0 systems.

I had a 10 man gang chasing my alts single harbinger with afterburner fitted once.
It all started with me jumping to a gate. There were some battleships, nano hacs and other ships that were bound to make my day miserable. I waited at gate knowing they would jump with me to other side should I jump. So I aligned for a celestial and tried to warp. A few seconds later and I was scrammed, webbed and they started pounding on me. Most battleships agressed and my armor went down fast.
I waited until I was in low armor and finally made the jump. I atleast one ship followed me to the other side. I decided to go for the gate again. Turns out I made the correct decision as a vaga pilot wasn't slow pointing me as soon as he uncloaked. I burned towards the gate with my t1 afterburner doing some 500ms at the most. Vaga tried to bump me of my destination but failed. Gate activated several times more ships were inbound. A curse uncloaked but before he had time to close range on me I was in jump range. They tried bumping me of the gate but failed, and I jumped to the other side again were the battleships were still sitting.
Having a few seconds to think while cloaked I noticed atleast 1 ship close enough to scram me. Damn amarr gates! I had to approach the gate again with afterburner. Few seconds after uncloaking I'm not only scrammed but also dual webbed 8km off the gate by an uncloaking rapier I hadn't seen before. I still had some momentum left and approached the gate maybe 1 km more. I started to care about getting my pod out safely when a curse bumps me, as if kicking someone lying down. But.. He bumped me into jump range! So I jump again.
Now its just me and the vagabond pilot from before. He was 35km away from me. Now was my one and only chance. I tried to warp alas he pointed me before I had time to align. But.. he went into web range upon approaching me. So I webbed and scrammed him and unloaded with my t1 beams and send my drones at him. Didn't seem he had the best tank and he was going down fast, but not fast enough the gate was activating and more ships jumped in. In hopes that the vaga still would pop before his friends arrived I aligned to a planet, and kept firing on the vaga. The vaga pilot must have panicked when his tank was failing so fast so when he finally got out of web range he went some 50km away. At the same time a curse came in and nanod against me, I just made it into warp before he got within scram range.
Now a new problem arose. The system I was in had no stations and only 3 gates all very close to one another. I had PvP timer so I couldn't logg. And they had a prober. I made a safespot only to find local had all ready filled up with the hostile gang camping all gates out. I waited in my safespot just a few minutes before noticing a vagabond getting very close on my scanner, at the same time all ships but a curse left the gate I was aligned to. I warped there and quickly jumped the curse followed me to the other side. I hit warp to top station as soon as screen loaded. Curse uncloaked and nanod towards me. In the very same second as he got in scram range I warped off to the stations safety.
One of my most hectic and fun moments in EvE, even if no one died, and I was the very lucky victim all along. |

When you read story's like Coochies it's hard to imagine why people think that running missions is "exciting".

EXACTLY! This was the kind of story I was looking for. Its exciting enough jumping in to a 0.3 system for the first time, with a frigate and a full cargo hold of expensive goods you cant really afford to lose! You just dont know what is on the other side until you get there!
I am going to go on a real danger tour tonight to see how far I can get into lowsec before aggroing something!

Edited by: Voltain on 24/04/2008 14:20:42 I used to do something similar with a mate, in 0.0 though.
We'd kit up two 'cepters and pick a point on the map, say 30+ jumps away and just race through. Was fun to have a blob chasing us. We'd try (and mostly fail) to bait two blobs, lead them into each other and hope for some carnage to pick the pieces off.

I had a fun gatecamp experience once in my myrmidon. I'd just found an exploration site in lowsec, so I went to get my myrmidon. When I went through the gate back to highsec, it was clear, but when I came back through in my myrm, there was a domi and cerebus on the gate. I tried to get away with my cloak, but they uncloaked me... locked... scrammed... neuted... but not webbed! After the initial shock I turned on my armor tank and started to run back to the gate at 170m/s. The Ogre I's and cerebus were hitting me hard, and I was starting to run out of cap, but I just managed to get to the gate as I entered structure and jump out. I came back later in my helios to donate a webber to the nice pirates who let me go. ========== This is a signature, a cunning ploy used by forum warriors! |

i must have driven some gate campers slightly nuts when the level 5 agents came along. i took my executioner off to see if a reported level 5 agent actually existed. he was sitting in a cul de sac of 1 low sec system that lead out into a high sec system. well i get there and jumped into low sec to find a half dozen ships camping the gate. they immediately tried locking me but an executioner is pretty zippy and i slipped away into warp. realized i hadn't noted which of the stations the level 5 was supposed to be in i started at the top of the station list to work my way down till i found the guy. now there weren't quite enough of the campers to mind the gate and still chase me down so we played tag around the stations for a while until i found out the level 5 agent was entirely mythical. jumped out to the gate and with a cheery "have a nice night guys" buggered off home.

Not near as hardcore as General Coochies, but I think my longest experience in eve was jumping into Syndicate while a huge BRUCE fleet was knocking down some POS's in system.
Thats ok, because 99 days of 99 days I can usually avoid a BRUCE fleet. No worries. I'm also in my trusty falcon, so again, no worries.
Local is 149. Not good.
My gate alone has two interdictors, two scorpions, and a small gank fleet of HACS and BS and assorted recon ships camping. Comes out every gate in system (4) has such a fleet, and if not two scorps then 3 to 4 blackbirds.
Relatively speaking thats alot of ECM / interdiction / firepower per gate for how they were spread. I could be wrong but from the few times the gate fired it also looked like they may have had a rapid reaction gang going from gate to gate as well.
So here I am. They know I'm here. They start their tight orbits, their wide orbits, every drone and its mother is trailing along.
Fair enough. I aim for the widest gap and move for at it half speed. Good call on my part, because ships and drones kept coming within 3 KMS of me, and I was barely having time to turn different directions and twist out of their flight paths / patterns until I cleared the bubble. No worries. Just as I clear the bubble and warp Im decloaked, but no worries. I warp 800 KMS off to a book mark, cloak, and align at a random angle towards no celestial object.
Doesn't take long and here come the dictors and intys trying to locate me...ok, they know my spot is close. Warp off, scan down the cap fleet, scan down the various gates via bookmarks, get what intel I can.
Not my POS war but Id never seen BRUCE dropping a hammer of like that.
4 hours in system. Ever flown 800 KMs, cloaked, in a Falcon, while weaving yourself through a fullblown gate camp to get back to the gate ?
Longest, greatest, and most annoying recon job I ever pulled. Needless to say my gang got the hell out of dodge for several systems when we saw that ****.

0.0 is more full of large lag-fests (fights?) and carebears (yes I said it) than most places you'll see. It's fun with a small recon gang, but otherwise it gets boring quick for me since choppy play keeps me out of a LOT of systems and fights. I have a great talent for running into 20-30 man gangs solo... ------------
