I could hassle people in my own corp about it, but I'd rather read up myself and experiment. Of course you might tell me just to experiment myself, but I don't have much time to mess about with work, family etc and I'd rather pew pew than try and work out the new features through trial and error...

You would have thunk CCP would have written one.
Basically, there is no Bracket Editor, stop looking for it.
An overview tab holds 2 things, and they are BOTH a single set of overview settings. Only one of them is applied to objects in visible space and NOT your overview.
So, in simple form.
1. Make one overview TAB (though you already have one).
2. Make a set of overview settings that you intend to see on your overview, as you would normally.
3. Copy it and modify it, taking special note that this one is the one that will show brackets in visible space, NOT items on overview.
4. Apply the "Overview" overview settings to the TAB. Apply the "Bracket" overview settings to the TAB.
Also bear in mind those illogical "In your gang" "In your alliance" filter settings that follow no reliable rule also affect whether a bracket will appear or not.
That's pretty much what I've figured out through experimentation.
I'll pay 50 pounds sterling to anybody who brings me the severed head of whoever thought up those filter settings. |

Also as a tip, do not try to edit the settings in a tab other than the default tab using the right click add/remove option. It makes a mess of all other tabs until you restart your client.
Instead, when you want to make changes to an overview display setting, select the default tab, load the setting there and make the changes. Save it and the changes will apply to any tab you have set to use that setting and all your other tabs won't freak out.

The overview/tabs etc are still flawed and over complicated, would like to see some genuine dev attention for the next patch  .
