Howdy.
I just purchased my first barge and I already see the problem that the 3 minute cycle on the strips causes when mining the small-ish 'roids in high-sec. The strips pop the 'roid early in their cycle and you're effectively mining nothing.
I've been shutting down and restarting the strips as frequently as my capacitor allows to check to see if the 'roid has popped. Is this the best way to go about it?
Also, anyone mind sharing some trade secrets with me on how to find bigger 'roids? I've seen how much bigger the rocks are in low-sec and null-sec, but I'm not ready to venture there yet. I know mission mining is viable. Any other tips anyone could share would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Use a survey scanner. Figure out how may full cycles each rock has. Switch to a new rock after the last full cycle.

Fit a survey scanner to see how much ore is in the roids. With this you'll be able to tell how much is in the asteroid and be able to figure out when to stop the laser.

There is an ingame program that is ToS friendly that you can use. I don't have the link to it though and not sure how well it works but you might try searching for it.

Could you give me a little more detail about what it does? I tried to search for "mining tool" and all I could find were macros.
Edit: You added the link as I was posting. Thanks. |

With T1 stripminers,
Targert 5 roids, Start mining, untill the cap reach full. Stopped the moduales, Restart again.
Can't remeber the capicity of the barge, but you can fit a cap expander I don't find the survey scanner very helpfull. |

Then you're an idiot. Or, you like wasting almost a full cycle on roids with 42 ore left in them. Either way that's a recipe for phail.
Check your yield (right click the module on your ship while you're in space, check attributes) and then figure out what the yield per minute/30 seconds/15 seconds/whatever is. That will let you know how long to run each strip miner on a roid with low ore. ___ Victory smiles upon those who anticipate the changes in the character of war, not upon those who wait to adapt themselves after they occur. ~Guilio Douhet |

I think the program that is being referred to is "MinerTimer". I use it extensively and it is a huge benefit. Just plug in your laser's yield and the size of the roid, and it counts down to when the roid is depleted; it even counts down each laser cycle.
I think that this is the discussion thread... link
Hope it helps make you a better miner

Edited by: Gavin LeMarque on 25/04/2008 00:36:22 I'm using Miner Timer right now and it's exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. Its accuracy seems to be dead-on. My efficiency is near 100% now.
Thanks everyone!
