No, what "made" them was intelligent leadership and some decent FC's to backup their choices.. atm they seem to have neither..
and tbh this "being mercs" sounds much like goonies "riding bikes"... sounds great.. but really doesnt have anything to do with the game atm.. MC are a space holding group like any other..

They chose not to be just another 'throw away' alliance being used as cannon fodder in Bobs heroic stand. So you wanted MC walk away from billions of investments because you couldn't hack it against the coalition? Like I said before. They should have helped wring Bobs neck and try to go on from there. Its hard to predict the future in Eve and there is always a snag or two down the road.
Its not like that the whole Tortuga idea is foolproof. What if KIA and MC ended up taking contracts on each other? How much strain would it force upon their agreement?
It is this type of rubbish that has put MC into the position they currently are in..
The choice MC had was quite simple.. maintain standings with the group that claimed the region they lived in, leave and fight to take somewhere else or fight to take PB.. they chose to fight in PB and have discovered that they arent going to win..
you can put any kind of moral spin on their choice you like, but the ingame "realities" are much simpler.. if you want to take something from someone without the owner giving it to you, you have to be strong enough to fight for it.. MC arent, werent and the ppl that convinced them they were are the ppl to blame for the mess they are in.. not bob, not MC's membership

I'd back BOB 1on1 against any alliance, they have the pilots they have the toys and they have a Molle.

Just get back to empire MC stop with holding space and get back to what you know how to do.
Actually i think most of the jokes about not defending are actually jibes aimed at the coalition.. (biased personal opinion ofc) cyno jammer jokes etc..
MC's fatal was inevitable from the point BOB/gbc held delve until the coalition gave up.. I'm sure BOB would welcome alot of the pilots back to the gbc, but not a leadership whose will to fight crumbled so badly, under very little direct pressure..
As for MC returning to it's roots saving it, that isnt exactly a 100% guaranteed plan either.. do they still have the pilots and FC's for that? they have lived in 0.0 a quite a while now, and will BOB have the time and interest to continue pressing them.. Given how DICE FW had alot of success against KIA in the couple of days KIA war dec'd BOB.. it is still a big quesetion mark how effective MC can be on contract, anywhere
