Edited by: Tamia Clant on 25/04/2008 11:32:57 Sorry if this has been asked before, I tried searching the dev blogs and forums but didn't find any information about it.
When the voting in 5th May starts, will players be voting for 1 or 9 candidates? Up to this point I thought we'd be voting for 1, but after some thinking a bit about it, it makes a lot more sense that that we vote for 9, as that will lead to much more accurate results.
For example, imagine one of the candidates is very popular and gets 99.9% of the votes. (extreme example, but work with me here) If a 1-vote-per-person system is used, then the very small minority (0.1%) will be choosing the other 8 candidates.
However, if voters get to select 9 candidates, then the 99.9% majority voters will still be making an impact on which of the other 8 get elected.

I can see that you're going to get on really well with your fellow council members if you get elected

Haha. Well, what I'm saying is that there's not 9 candidates who can represent what i think eve should be.
I'm fairly sure that there's a lot of competent people in the list, seeing as people in eve are general very smart. But i just don't agree with all they say, or don't say(Large majority of candidates hardly even post on the forum).

That's exactly why I asked. I already have 1 candidate in mind but if it's going to be 9 then I have some more research to do.

I myself fall under this catagory but my attendance on the forum has and will be impoved greatly considering my status .
Voting will be difficult to predict in my opinion, as people have different views on what they would like EVE to be, of course there will be many players who would like a well rounded game but there will also be biases towards what is discussed.
Having had a quick scout of the forums last night it seems that the main topics of dicussion are: the economy and PVP.
I'll need to further my research and discuss with people some of the issues raised in the above topis

I really wish everyone had 9 votes instead of one. There are a bunch of people that I want to see on the council, but I really don't think there's any "best" candidate simply because EVE is too diverse. ---------------- Tarminic - 35 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.81 (Updated 4/8) |

I agree. Voting for 9 candidates would likely render better statistics, However it may also skew statistics. If what your looking for is the top 9 overall popular, one vote per person would be sufficient.
Also from what I understand the plan is to go with "one vote per person" then the #1 spot is the chairman, the top 9 spots are council, next 5 are alts, and the chairman appoints other roles within the top 9.
But I may be mistaken. |

I think 3 votes (weighted 3, 2, 1 respectively), would have been my preference, but we shall see what CCP come up with.
I actually have no idea how the actual voting will happen, is it going to be done on the website or in the EVE client? |

That could also work nicely.
As for the voting, I'm guessing it'll be done through here. |

Even if we were voting for a cabinet rather than an overall 'best' candidate, I still have the problem that I'd end up voting for Minister of Fail, Minister of Totally Clueless Solutions, Minister of Please Give Me a Free Trip to Iceland.
It's not like the quality of candidates is stellar
Frankly, I'm struggling to name 5 people I think have a clue. Of those, maybe 3 deserve serious consideration. |

I think we should have a lottery that gives out voting BPOs.

as i mentioned in my mini-rant/manifesto, a Borda Count system of voting would work very well here... ----------------------
