Hello,
I'm having troubles getting Windowed Mode to work. If I select Windowed Mode in the graphic options, all the choices for game resolution are removed, leaving me with but one option: 1600x1200. This happens to be my windows resolution as well. As a result, when I submit the change to windowed mode, I end up with a frame that's larger than my actual screen area, and I can't reduce it's size. Just what may I do about this? |

Edited by: Siigari Kitawa on 25/04/2008 18:56:14 Well you can do what I do and push the window header bar up as far as you can, then line up the outer walls of the window so they disappear off your screen.
It works pretty well.
If you absolutely need a picture, I can provide one.
edit: Okay, I provided one. Look along the top of the screen (this is a print screen of everything that my desktop is showing) and you can see the window.)

Appreciate the response, but that's not exactly a solution. The whole idea of Windowed Mode, I think, is so I can make it small enough to be unobtrusive. |

Oh.
You can try forcing it by creating a shortcut and typing -h 1024 -v 768 or something in the command line option.
I forget what exactly the options are.. someone here can help you with that I'm sure.

I would just reinstall, there are plenty of options for windowed resolutions on my client.

CCP removed most of the supported resolutions. Has me pretty annoyed, as it is extremely difficult to run windowed on my laptop now.
I managed to trick one of my client installs to do 800x600, but I can't get the other one to do it so I am not comfortable offering instructions.

I have the exact same problem as you. My screen resolution is 1600x1200 and the windowed option now is 1600x1200. There used to be an option for 1600x1024 or something but now it's gone.

Get EveMon (http://evemon.battleclinic.com/), or some tool like Eve Launcher (http://eve.grismar.net/evelauncher/), it'll auto move your window to take up your whole monitor, then you just hide your taskbar if you like alt-tabbing a lot.
But windowed mode really shines when you have 2 monitors. =^-^=

Weird. Could it be a graphics card driver issue? I get the same 7 options for resolution in windowed mode as I do in fullscreen mode (with an 8800GTX, 7.11.15.6925).

Some actual support would be nice on the client-side. |

Very true. But until they patch that in, we're stuck using the tools people have come up with to overcome this short coming in the client... I've played several MMO's that have this exact problem. At least people have made the tools to fix this problem with the EVE client.

I was fine after the patch when they removed the resolutions (it is in the patch notes) but when the EVE client crashed later that day, I lost all my settings (again!) and was unable to return to my previous resolution.
I sent a petition, and it was confirmed that CCP did remove those resolution options in the last patch, and they would no longer support resolutions below 1024x768.
Go ahead and check to see if you have 800x600 as an option. Bet you don't. And for most people, I'm sure it doesn't matter. But for people like me, it does, and I'm a little annoyed that CCP decided they know better than me about what resolutions work best for me.

To the people saying that they have resolution choices in windowed mode, I suspect you're confusing something. When you change "Fullscreen" to "Windowed", the resolution choices remain. However, once you "Apply" it, the choices get removed and the client chooses whatever the hell choice it's hard-coded to. |

I run in windowed mode and I have all the options I used to have (yes, the same way you were just describing). It's almost certainly a combinatorial (circumstantial) problem at your end caused by the eve client. |

Monitor Refresh Rate. It sometimes gets out of sync between Windows and EVE. Make sure they're set to the same (i.e. 60Hz) otherwise windowed modes get kaput.

Go to the vidcard software and manually add the resolution you want. Start the client, you should now have the option to change the windowed setting to that new resolution. |

I run 3 account at the same time in windowed mode all at 1280x1024 and my desktop is 1600x1200 and have no problems. You probly have a video card issue or a driver issue you should look at.

I disagree. The point of window mode is to make it so you can ALT+TAB out of Eve or click something on your other monitor without having to wait for the screen flicker/resize of switching from fullscreen Eve to Windows. Eve is a game that benefits a lot from being able to switch to other programs quickly and without having to wait a few seconds while your screen flickers and switches.
Evemon will automatically move the window so it looks fullscreen.
I can't imagine why you'd want to run Eve in a tiny window, as screen real estate in Eve is tight enough as it is.

Have you tried editing prefs.ini? For XP (don't know about Vista) it's located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings, just edit the desktopHeight/-Width values to the resolution you want. I know it works if you specify some standard res like 1280x1024, but maybe you could get a freeform one as well, like 1337x1111 (sorry, I had to).
Personally I'd very much like to see DirectX apps NOT minimizing whenever they lose focus (after all, this problem isn't EVE specific). Window mode can eat a lot of FPS, which is why I often run EVE fullscreen even though I do a lot of stuff on my secondary monitor while playing...

Try closing Eve and then changing your windows desktop resolution to something else, then open eve and see if it shows other resolutions, if not keep messing around in different desktop resolutions.
That fixed it for me. |

you can create a custom resolution from the nvidia control panel. on my 22" 1680x1050 screen i made a 1680x990 resolution. it looks like this : pic

Doesn't always work though, some driver/hardware combinations just won't add custom modes properly. Like for me atm, and even if I manage to add a custom mode that Windows recognises it won't show up in any games. I have to resort to some good old fashioned tool like ReForce, which works great every time.
I don't doubt that the nvidia stuff works for you, I just wanted to point out that not everyone is so lucky. Ofc, the same can possibly be said about ReForce et al, but it's worth a try.
There's a lot to be said about the "new" nvidia control panel, but "nice work!" isn't exactly what I have in mind... |
