You can turn all the settings down/off, that can help if it's not server lag.

Had this same problem a while back. Turned out to be Windows Defender running antispyware scans in the background. It seems to run at random start times even when told to only run at a specfic time. I would look for something like an antivirus program or antispyware program scanning your system in the background.

Same here.... completely freezes the system actually... it's frickin annoying... also very fun when you are in a battle.
But hey, this is ALSO a feature.... so don't complain about it.

This is an issue that I've seen pop up a few times and every time so far it's turned out to be drivers, windows, or bios configuration problems, but that's no reason we can't do our best ot help you find a solution that works for you.
Please give the following a try and let me know if it works. Update your graphics, and audio drivers to the latest release. Check for any anti-virus, firewall, or windows defender.. try disabling them. Check the cooling on your CPU, and your graphics card Try using the classic client instead of premium (or premium instead of classic if your computer supports it) Rename your settings folder (rename, not delete.. so you can put it back if it doesn't work) Those folders can be found here: (may be hidden folders) 2000/XP c:\documents and settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\client_folder_location Vista C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\client_folder_location
If all that fails please let us know, but also post your system information so we have more information to work with. ____________________________ I break things.

You can attach them to bug reports. ____________________________ I break things.

na... I've stopped submitting al sorts of info to you guys... All I ever hear from you is "we need more and more and more and more info" or "this is as intended"... yeah right...
You don't want to receive additional information... that has been made clear to me.
Start taking bugreports seriously and I might chance my mind.

Edited by: Azuse on 15/05/2008 15:33:20 Well Nvidia released their first driver update for series 7 cards on vista in five months yesterday, installed it then cleaned the registry up and had it on for twelve hours and so far so good, not a single glitch or issues (it's actually smooth again)
Vista Driver
Oddly its WHQL certified but in the beta section of the site, probably why people are missing it.
As to the bug reporting if you give them enough (i.e log file, dxdiag and screen shot) then you won't get the we need more info response, unfortunately you won't be able to send it either since the zip file almost always exceeds the 2 meg limit. The bug system is rumoured to be being overhauled atm so, fingers crossed, the limitations will be raised slightly. I might even be albe to send them in soon -------------------------

The same thing happened to me on the same mission, Lost a Drake 3 rigs and plenty of named and T2 items, my Corp mate nearly lost his Raven 5 seconds after. I have a purpose built gaming machine so this shouldnt be happening.
With the new expansion coming and all the PvP that will come with it, these problems are surely only going to get worse?
I almost didnt bother to send a petition/report this time, i know the answers that im going to get already.

Edited by: Infoshock on 18/05/2008 18:12:24 I am glad to see some official response because this glitch is a a game-killer.
Over a year ago I cancelled my Eve subscription after 6 months of play because of this glitch. I had all the latest drivers and all my in-game settings as low as they would go. But it was still unbearable no matter what I tried and the few people who offered suggestions on the forum were unable to help.
Fast forward to now, I have recently built myself a new PC and decided to give Eve another try. I was cruising along just fine for the first few days and then all of a sudden it started happening again (this is on my new system). So I tried it on my laptop, same thing. 3 for 3, each computer with very different specs (all of which are well above the min sys reqs) and the latest drivers/updates.
That said, I am convinced this is a networking issue.
I live in Cleveland/Ohio/USA, I understand that it takes some time for packets to shoot across the Atlantic. The glitch tends to happen much more frequently in the higher populated regions, but independently of how many objects are rendered on the screen. Take Jita for example, my screen will freeze up just as often at a jump gate with a hundred ships around as it will if I'm floating alone in deadspace.
There are two things that work for me:
1) Move to a lesser populated region. Avoid Lonetrek, the Citadel, places like that. Low-sec is usually safe, I assume 0.0 would be too.
2) Restart the Eve client for some temporary relief (it seems to take a few minutes for the glitch to kick-in).
Other than that good luck, hopefully CCP will address this issue in the near future.
/edit I can also confirm that my problem at least is not a AV/firewall issue as it even happens with my Windows firewall disabled and anti-malware uninstalled. I have also tried it at work and it happens there same as at home (6Mbps down, 1.5 up business class connection at work versus residential RR cable internet at home).

Umm, I'm just a lowly newb so I'm probably way off here... but I was freezing every few seconds... then I closed the big chat channels like RookieHelp which has thousands of people on it, and it cleared right up. Nate

Not sure how you believe it's a networking issue tbh, vista users are frequently confronted with something like this
which isn't networking at all, nor is it regular lag but you're right it is a game killer. Or at least alt killer -------------------------

if you are running vista, try disabling the desktop window manager (aero)
nvidia cards drivers have been having conflict issues with aero, which uses directx to render vistas eye candy.
you can disabled the DWM service, or just open task manager, show all processes, and kill dwm.exe twice, and it will stay dead until you reboot.

I had an issue about a year ago game freezing, multiple drops and lots of fps loss.
Re-installed fresh client and it ran fine. after copying back my old settings the problem came back. So i copied back one settings file at a time untill i found which one was causing it. Turned out to be same one which controls colours/gfx settings etc.(so long ago i can't remember which) hope this helps someone

Are you connecting to a wireless router, wirelessly to play Eve ?
I had mega problems disconnecting / freezes etc when trying to play Eve wirelessly through a Belkin modem router. I initially reverted back to my old DSL modem and Eve became rock steady. Went back to the router but using a direct ethernet connection also rock steady (well, the constant freezing and disconnections stopped ).
I have played Eve happily on most public wireless connections I have used (Hotels etc) with the exception of those that were using Tiscali as ISP
So form my experience there is something that either the Eve servers or the Eve client doesn't like about a wireless first hop, but plugging in directly fixed it for me.
