Was just wondering if anyone else, or maybe even CCP, has thought of adding some way to "tag" items/stacks in hangar with a little description for personal use. I think it'd be useful to traders in specific.
Let's say one week you buy 100 of Item X at Price A and then the next week you buy 100 of Item X at Price B. And say you want to hold those 200 of Item X for another week and then sell them. Wouldn't it be convenient if you can have the 2 separate stacks with a little "label" that says 'Bought for Price A... Total = _____' and 'Bought for Price B... Total = ____'
I know most traders keep track of this kind of stuff with out of game tools/applications, pen/paper, photographic memory, etc.
And it'd be just generally useful. Instead of having to use the Notepad for little notes like that, people can tag items directly so when their mouse hovers over the item they know what it cost, who sold it to them, who they need to contract it to, etc, etc.
Please discuss, let me know if it is a stupid idea or has been suggested before.

I don't think it a stupid idea at all nor do I think it has been discussed before either. I just think, given the api and the tools that support it, it is an overly redundant idea. It may also be one of those rather complicated ideas that adds little to game play, beyond what is readily available, while consuming an excessive amount of dev/bandwidth/server resources.

I like the idea, but not sure it will ever fly. Given the amount of items in game and the added database resources required for it?
Not likely given they have been in a massive "let's scale out database needs down" mode for the last year. |

Yeah I agree it is a bit redundant but I like to see more in-game features rather than have to rely on very gracious members of the community putting their time and effort into developing so many VERY useful tools. I do appreciate all the tools of course, but seeing things in-game makes me happy so I don't have to alt-tab out, or use a different screen, etc.
And you're right about the resource use, if it took too much of anything, time, bandwidth, whatever... then it wouldn't be worth it obviously.

I use cans.
In fact my hangars are full of cans. Takes tons of time to load hangar windows during prime time.

I also use cans, one problem is that you can't view your assets across a region if items are put into cans.
Also, do you know if there is a way to put stuff into a can or a station container without it locking? It's a royal pain in the arse to move stuff back and forth between the hanger and the station containers.

Right click the can, select configure, and then set it's default to unlocked. The PITA part is you need to do this to each can individually. |

If you buy general freight containers instead of station containers, then they dont have locks (as they are not secure containers).
