This thread is now about anime. Also I just re-watched GITS: 2nd GiG. And is it just me or is the 2nd ep just 1 giant homage to the movie Taxi Driver?

100%
It's been a while since I've seen it but I'm reasonably certain they borrow some dialogue almost directly and paraphrase scenes.
Doesn't he have some line about how "She is untouched by everything"? Travis Bickle comes out with something very similar about Cybil Shephard. Does the ep take off the mirror scene too? hmmm. I'm sure he bull****s a colleague in a similar way to Bickle claiming to be working for the government too.
Even his choice of gun (a deag0l) is similar (Bickle has a Magnum revolver). I wonder if it's extra symbolic given the nature of his war wound?
If you keep an eye out a lot of episodes of that show are tributes to various films and TV shows, some western and some anime. EVE RELATED CONTENT |

Yeah it even has the mirror scene just without the dialogue. I now have the sudden urge to watch every movie I can find that is similar to Taxi Driver. ( I seem to recall one where the main character moved a potted plant before killing any idea what it is?) Back to animu has anyone seen Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann?

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is EPIC. I absolutely loved it, its produced by GAINAX (same people that made FLCL, Evangelion, Appleseed(original one from 1988), He is my master, etc) Its not like your standard mecha anime which is what makes it so awesome. The story line is great, it captures you from the first episode, has huge twists and turns, make you cry at points and makes you laugh at others, its a story that filled with true emotion. The character development is superb, the music fits every scene. Overall its a great series that has a place in my heart next to Evangelion, FMP, You're under Arrest, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell movie, Ghost in the Shell Innocence, and many others. ----

Edited by: ReaperOfSly on 28/04/2008 09:12:06 Whoo, another anime thread. I shall weigh in by mentioning that I just finished Ergo Proxy and that it was fecking AWESOME. Starts off like Logan's Run, then turns into Highlander, and finishes with lots of thing going crash bang KABOOM! What more could you ask for?
Edit: annoying filler episodes involving game shows notwithstanding. --------------------------------------------------------------------

Edited by: DevilBunny on 28/04/2008 09:19:28 Ergo Proxy was pretty good, not amazing but certainly better than your average series. The one thing that kinda ruined it was the lame game show mini-arc, it was so annoying. Other than that it was great. Oh, a decent samurai series for anyone that is interested is Shigurui, it has plenty of gore in it and the story is not that bad.
Edit: yay we agree! ----

Anyone else think that Code Geass might actually be better w/o Geass and mecha?

Anyone watching the new Macross? I'm not sure exactly when it comes out but I download a new episode each Saturday, same time as Battlestar Galactica.

No, Marrianes death had something to do with Ragnarok, hence Geass.
I'm musing over Rollo now he is known as a proffessional assasin specialising in near impossible ones due to his geass.... whats the chances he was the one that offed Marriane?
It wouldnt have the same vibes with C.C and Lelouch if they ditched the Geass, and we would never have had the Euphinator....

I don't think it was Rollo who killed Marianne. For a start, he's younger than Lelouche - and Lelouche himself was only a kid at the time. Also, in the first series you got to see her death. It involved someone spraying bullets through a window - not Rollo's style at all. --------------------------------------------------------------------

/me shrugs.
Its Geass and pizza content is directly proportional to plot twists.
Rollo is only a year Lelouchs junior afaik, but in the shots we saw of other assasinations he didnt look more that 5 or 6.

Still, spraying bullets through a window? When he could have just frozen everybody and walked up to her and slashed her throat? Seems a bit unnecessary.
Anyway there doesn't seem to have been any pizza in season 2 yet.
Edit: oh and I just noticed something. The first guy we saw Rollo kill, he shot with a gun. But the guy didn't fall over. So it seems he doesn't just freeze people's perception of time, he actually freezes their entire body into place. --------------------------------------------------------------------

Actualy, rewatch that bit of episode one with C.C talking to the air traffic control from the Zeppelin. Theres a shot looking up at it from street level - guess what building is in this shot on the left?
Spraying bullets would be a good distraction tbqh - setup a KMF or an array of guns to shoot when he hits the button, slip in, pew pew Marriane holding onto Nunnaly and run away with a "just as planned" grin plastered on his face.
