hi there guys
i quite new to eve so not 2 sure about diff modules, i have read about t2 and faction gear but have yet to come to a decision of which i should aim for.
from what i understand t2 seems to b alot cheaper but harder to run(skills/cpu/pwergrid etc)
now what i am trying to find out is if it is worth waiting ill my skills are at t2 lvl or getting the faction gear as soon as i have the isk
if i do decide to just get the factin gear is it then worth getting t2 later on or are they the same quality
cheers for all imput

Well, it really depends on the module. In some areas Tech II is far better than faction, and in others faction better than Tech II. In many cases you may find that Faction is the same as Tech II but easier to fit. Honestly, aim for Tech II. Skill training is heavier, but fitting an entire ship out with Faction gear gets stupidly expensive. |

I agree with previous poster. Training for t2 usually brings other advantages like more damage, better shields/armor/grid/cpu just from the actual skills. |

To expand upon the point, I'll use an example.
The Heavy Missile Launcher II requires FAR more skill to use than the Caldari Navy Heavy Missile Launcher, but at lower skill levels the Caldari Navy Heavy Launcher will do significantly more damage. Once you start skilling up Heavy Missile Specilization the gap narrows considerably, once you're at skill level V (after a month or so of training) the gap is almost non existant. Thus at the end of the day, the REAL draw of the faction launcher is that it has lower fitting requirements, allowing you to fit more/better modules in your other slots.
Of course, if T2 ammunition weren't so incredibly pitiful in most circumstances, the T2 launcher would win out on flexabilty but the Heavy Missile launcher's ammo types are often pretty terrible for actual application in PVP.
At any rate, T2 is generally a better choice simply due to the cost factor. A Drake using 7 Heavy/HAM II's and a full fitting costs about 50 - 60 million isk. Throw in 7 faction launchers and the price jumps to closer to 500mil +. Since the faction launchers don't make you 700+% deadlier or less likely to die, I generally opt for the module I can afford to replace.

Edited by: ViperVenom on 28/04/2008 17:41:50 Edited by: ViperVenom on 28/04/2008 17:41:22 T2 or Faction.. T2 is normality better than faction but faction stuff is Easier to fit now that goes for modules. T2 or Faction ammo is where the line breaks down Let just look at Terror HAM.. T1 Terror //125Exp Radius/4 sec flight time/2250 m/sec/100Hp T2 Terror Jav //125Exp Radius/10.5 sec flight time/3500m/sec/85Hp(-5% Velocity) T2 Terror Rage//200Exp Radius/5.sec flight time/1500m/sec/120Hp(-7.5% cap recharge) T1 Caldari Navy Terror //125Exp radius/4 sec flight time/2250m/sec/120Hp(no draw back)
So when it comes to missiles Faction is pretty good. But it cost a butt load. But hey who dont have a Caldari mission running Alt? And Most Faction Ammo is way better them T2 ammo. Republic Fleet EMP is magical. At the end of the day it up to you. I hope the number help you out a tad bit.

A general rule to follow is that if you plan on buying faction mods, you should only use them for PVE if you want to stand a decent chance of holding onto them for long enough to get your money's worth.
And if you're really new to Eve, then you shouldn't even consider buying faction gear until you've played the game for at least a year. This is because you need to build up a decent skill base to use the faction gear effectively, and by then you will hopefully have built up enough cash to afford it.

Edited by: Ghengis Tia on 28/04/2008 17:52:27 Eve Tribune Linkage has an excellent article on named vs T2 mods. Faction gear is usually better than t2, although much harder to get a hold of and, of course, much more expensive.

It really depends on how much isk you have and skills. T2 stuff is deffo worth training for, for all the extra damage/tanking you get from the skills. However, fitting your ship can get hard. Most of my ships will have about 1 faction mod on, of no real value (10-30mill) just to get stuff to fit on =D
