Low-Sec needs to be populated again with not just pirates as it is now (and there trade alt's). How about taking the ability to buy and sell faction ammo from high-sec and restricting it to .0 and low-sec only? You would get alot more traffic from high-sec due to all those mission runners wanting fancy faction ammo. You could even let all Faction items & maybe even officer to be viewed on a sort of 'outlaws market' when in low-sec?

As far as the faction ammo goes, nah, they'd just switch to T2 ammo.

Nothing you can think of to put in low sec is going to make it anymore populated then it is.

They're there... but you'll rarely get one. I've only ever gotten a dread co-processor and a dread BCU off lowsec rats ------------

Oh for sure I'm 100% they'll start jumping their CNRs into Nalvula to pick ammo up. EVE RELATED CONTENT |

They used to jump them into Ihakana daily. We kinda slowed them down but I'd say at least 2-3 a month still do it ------------

No. Anything restricting high sec wont help. You need to boost low sec not nerf high sec. All that would happen is that players in high sec would use somthing else.

*Switch all lvl 3 and 4 agents to low sec.
*make roids in high sec so small that mining in anything but a frig/cruiser size ship would not be worth. Alternative: de-roid the belts so much that people are forced to go low-sec.

EDIT: Hmm, better say why this will work before i get flamed. Moving agents means that the farmers get nerf'd, or at least thier income does. Newbs will still have a place to get a foothold and learn some of the game mechanics.
Making roids tiny means that anyone using a strip miner will have to change roids every 2min. If they do use them they can strip out an entire field quickly... which is the same as the alternative i proposed. Either way it becomes a hassle.
Will this curb ALL farmers or high sec hugging bears? No. Does it have the chance of getting more people into low-sec or 0.0? Yes.
To those that think you should not nerf high sec: You would have to boost lowsec to such a high degree (to get the avg. bear out of high) that it becomes somewhat ********. Why leave my comfy high sec area where i make xMil ISK/ day just to make a little bit more? The people that DO want that little bit are already IN low sec or 0.0. All this really does is make low sec home to large blobs/uber ship gangs and corps "claiming systems" like they were 0.0. Low sec would be more dangerous, high sec would not change....
I don't think there is enough lowsec space to make any of this viable at all
and with trit prices spiking well... veldspar is the most worthwile thing to mine right now that and it would punish the noobs in frigs/crusiers as all the hulks would still just come in and strip the belts.

Edited by: Fung Pi on 29/04/2008 00:16:39 Upon further thought (as i said in my original post i was spit balling)I agree that there is not low sec space to accomodate everything. At least at present. More could be added (or some could be changed) but meh.
Also I am sure more people would start farming the roids that are in thier missions instead of the belts if the belts were depopulated, that would negate the need to go to low sec as well.
These are not insurmountable problems, but would require a total reworking of system securtity and a host of other issues... so in other words ignore the fix's. I still stand by my argument for nerfing high sec though. But then, I would rather see nerfs than boosts in general so take that for what its worth.
Edit: Is this really a C&P topic? I would think there is another location this would be better suited. |

None of these idea you throw out like moving all agent to low sec is going to get folks to move down to low sec where they can get gank by gang of 3 or 4 if not more folks.
Maybe you should look at way to make it so gate camp arent so easy so folks can get into low sec more. Once your into a belt or a mission it isnt as bad, but still I am not 100 sure how to spot someone scaning my mission out. I dont use drones and I spam the scanner but really not even sure what will show up in the scanner to give me a warning. Semi moot I dont really feel it worth going into low sec solo most the time.
Seem all the pirate idea for making low sec better revolve around forcing solo player to come down and get gank so I can read a silly post in Crime and punishment saying yar me and my gang gank a hulk and it had crappy fitting how did they expect to stop the 5 of us.
The attacker always has the advantage as they know when they are going to attack. That just makes it annoying to try and mine in low sec because you never really know when your going to get attacked. If am in a system with 8 plus folks and 3 of them have minus sec rating it just isnt worth.
I dont know what to do to make low sec better, but they need to balance the risk and reward more that true. I feel safer in 0.0 then in low sec most the time if someone enters the system I am in and they are red at least I can just go dock up, or hop to safe spot, or even call for help to go kill him. I suppose I can do the same thing in low sec, but usually once I get into the system thier is always someone with neg security rating floating around so if I am just going to dock up or move to a safe spot why even bother going there in the first place.

Just put more guns at gates so that gate camping is not that easy. The problem with lowsec is to get through the gate.

Well it seems silly to restrict existing items to lowsec , considering the stockpiles lying in highsec (traders seeing their stacks of ammo changed into contraband would not be happy)
T3 pirate branded items should be the best / most useful of the bunch , like MWDs with less cap penalty (serpentis) or added sig radius (angel) and only available in lowsec.

having all faction items be tradeable/contractable only in lowsec is brilliant idea.
i would go a step further and make faction items illegal in highsec, subject to prosecution by faction police. you would require the smuggler skills to use it, and even then, you would always have chance of being captured by the police at stations, gates and other static objects.

While this sounds like a carebear idea.. I rather like it. Just add some ECM Gatecamping is more like mining than "PvP".
IMO, low sec should be easy to get into.. but actually doing what you went there for, mining, ratting, missions etc. Should still carry the full risk.

Same old same old.
It's not because lowsec has no rewards, it's because pies expect everybody who goes their to be as AWESOME as them at lowsec survival, which not everybody is, nor do they want to be.
For most people, a trip to the only lowsec they need to go to is a very high chance of death if they go there in the ship they need to get the job done. The reason that lowsec is dangerous is because a lot of people need to go there for the same reason, and the people who found that out 3 years ago, made the pie alts that camp hell out of those same systems in the current days.
Since today a trip to lowsec has a risk far outweighing what it used to be, the rewards offered would inevitably be snapped up by the pies who would defend their "territory" even more vigoursly than before the "rewards" were placed there. Just like they camp the hell out of the 10/10 plexs, broken or not, in 0.0
Lowsec was populace when it wasn't hunted to death. Instead of CCP giving them incentive to go to lowsec, how about you stop giving them incentive to stay out?

Nah, they'd just whine about how mission runners got nerfed. Like when torps got a huge damage boost, it was clearly CCP targeting mission runners, the most self centered, least adaptable group in Eve.

Edited by: Kelmor Malbeth on 29/04/2008 21:09:52 Just my thoughts;
remove local chat, or at least have local only display who is there if they type a message in it...
this would mean that minners / ratters would need to keep an eye on scanners to avoid a gank, and PVP`ers would have to make more use of the scanners to hunt targets.
once though a gate minners/ratters (i`d guess) would be more willing to risk a quick buck by mining if they think they can get away with it, and by the same token pvp`ers would be more likily to catch people unawears, rather than he "someone in local... dock" aproach.
edit: i`d be in favor of an update to the UI of the scanner as well, so that it`d display real time information, or at least refrseh automatically say every 15 seconds without clicking a button. (other tools like a cone/shpere graphic on map view to show what is being scanned would be good to)

ECM batteries instead of guns...I like that. A lot.
I do agree, the biggest problem in lowsec isn't being there, it's getting there. I may not be pirating atm but I doubt that much has changed in the past year.

low sec is what it sates it is ,low security . In big cities the slum area with low security, is an area where not many people travel to. Its not a tourist attraction, just as in low sec in the game.
Low sec = low population
Pirate faction loot only sold in low sec is not a bad idea but its really not going to increase the population

How 'bout no. There is nothing you can take away from highsec that will make people go low sec. Most you could do is drive carebears to quit, then your few targets in low sec turn into even fewer. I would return to 0.0 before I would go lowsec.

Traditionally, low sec terrestrial areas have a denser population because it's less expensive to live. In Eve it costs the same amount to live everywhere. Maybe I've touched on something?

Discounts on market prices and higher mission rewards maybe? I remember once there was mention of a "black market" where you could buy things such as boosters and special implants (a full snake set, for example). You could also buy pirate faction items out there. I know there was more to it and this idea was mentioned before, but I'm throwing it out there as a reminder that maybe this could work?
Also, the ECM gate towers are an excellent idea. They could stop the single noobish gate camper in his/her tracks (aside from your usual smartbomb build) and allow for more coordination and teamwork between pirates. In the real world and other fictional worlds, it usually takes more than a single ship to pull off a successful piracy. Why shouldn't that apply to EVE as well? -------------------------------------------------- "With hard work and focus ye shall achieve." Unless stated otherwise, the opinions above do not reflect those of my corp or my alliance. Thx. >.> |

In other words, you want to have a nice fat killboard with a minimal effort by killing weak ass haulers, n00bs and miners and pve'ers. Yawn.
If you want a challenge, go after other pies in LowSec or *gasp* into 0.0 or man-up and go to Empre and Wardec everyone.
WTF, did I just say man-up and go to Empire?
