... off of moons?
A lot of players may not know that the same phenomenon that causes your ship to bounce off your friend's when you approach too close also works with celestial bodies
If you're bored of running missions, and want to try something a bit weird, make yourself a bounce bookmark:
- Find a planet or moon with a station close by, and another object (moon, station, gate etc) directly behind the moon. Approach the moon until youre a few kilometers from the surface and bookmark the location.
- Warp to the object that is directly behind the moon, and the warp back to the first bookmark to within 70km or 100km, and quickly place another bookmark inside the moon.
- If this doesn't bounce you out of the moon, approach its centre by double clicking while dropping bookmarks every few kilometers until you do.
Once you have your bounce booky, try warping aligning entire fleets to it! Also, the larger the mass of your ship the faster/further you bounce! I implore someone to try it in a titan
p.s. I have a few of these saved in highsec systems if you fancy having a go without the tedium of creating one.

I tried and I wasn't able to create a bookmark inside of a moon...it would automatically set the bookmark a few thousand KM off. ---------------- Tarminic - 35 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.81 (Updated 4/8) |

I actually have a bookmark INSIDE a moon. It's a leftover from the days when you could actually fly into planets. Since the planet is in the way, nobody can shoot you, even IF they find you. So you can sit there completely invulnerable, inside the planet core.
And no, it does not bounce you out. I dunno what the OP is on about.

Edited by: Takeshi Kuma on 28/04/2008 19:21:27 I've got 4 or 5 of them now, and made another in Todaki today. Think I confused a lot of newbs and for some reason none of them trusted me when I offered them a copy! hehehe
Anyway, if you're trying to make one, make sure you pick a station + moon + other object that are nicely lined up, cause this makes it a lot easier. Also, if someone has a few days to waste I'm sure its possible ot place one inside a star.
p.s. Bish, you obviously don't have a good quality one! You can try one of my premium bookies if you like

Friend of mine did this a short while ago. Took him like a day to do it in a Claw interceptor. He rocketed out of the sun at such speeds that his face came off.

Ships dont tend to bump off of planets though... generally they crash (in a controlled manner or otherwise) or bounce off the atmosphere.
Meh to squishing! Try setting up a driven sympathetic harmonic oscillation (jiggle one and watch the other one jiggle as well)

Prior to wtz, this was how I thought they should of solved the gtg bm problem. Warp too close to a gate, get bounced.
Oh well.

I recently did this actually. I didn't warp to the planet, but to a station that a was mere 700 km away from it. Got in a slasher with an OD II, MWD and started flying. Didn't take me but 5 minutes to reach the planet. Kept on flying for another five minutes inside it then I reached the center and flew out so fast a I passed the station I started from within about 1-2 seconds and kept going. It was awesome =D

I don't know how you people got into the sun... it's always annoying when I try to aim my ship to it's direction. I end up traveling 1000km then giving up. Oh, and the lights hurt too.
But for a moon, it's easy. Just keep approaching it, go right through the surface, and stop 15 km away from the center. You can actually use the look at function on the moon... wonder if you could with the sun. And as soon as you got within a few km of the center, it bumps you off. Haven't been bumped AU away yet, just a few million km.

Corpmate of mine (actually a whole gang of us took our biggest ships and gangwarped) bounced his Dread through a sun.
It kept going for a loooong time after our ships had slowed down. Like, at least 5-10 minutes - and we were warping to gangmember every couple of seconds just to keep up.
Dunno if he frapsed it. I will ask sometime

personally i think flying too close to a moon, planet or sun should destroy ur ship (it burns up or crashes into it.)
warping through one still creeps me out a bit. _______________________________________________________ CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!!

anyone else play Independance War 2? Quite enjoyed throttling up the LDS and taking my ship too close to a planet! There was none of this bouncing rubbish, just a nice explosion...

For the longest time, there were a pair of shuttles in one of my old 0.0 haunts that were parked in space very near to the star. I managed to probe them out in order to perform a little space junk removal, and every time I came out of warp anywhere near them, I was thrown a very great distance away very quickly. It was very annoying, but those shuttles are now gone thanks to the clean-up program. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

I owned a bookmark right in the enter of the 9-2 star in venal. I warped to that star once just before the server went down for maintenance. When I logged back in I was inside the star.
Should still have that. Gonna take a picture and post it here.

Before the Trinity upgrade the whole screen was on fire when I warped to that bookmark. I could zoom all the way out and all I'd see was fire.
As I said before, stars are 2D sprites now, even when you're at their center. _________
