Edited by: Soporo on 28/04/2008 22:35:16 So I scrimped and saved and grinded and sold tons of random junk I had laying around and am CLOSE to getting my (first) dream ship, the Rattlesnake (assuming one comes up for sale under 750mil and is Item Exchange, and I see it in time...*wrings hands* ).
I am itching to see what I can do with that tank (PVE), and I was hoping for some pointers from peeps who may have or had one of these.
Due to the insane amount of Shield hit-points, is a passive fit usefull/workable for this ship?
Regardless, I am TOTALLY going to cram as many LSE II's as I can on there just for a maniacal laugh.
Otherwise, I am just making the wild guess that I fit it like I would any other normal Scorp. My shield skills are all 4's except for a 5 or two.
(T2 fits only please, no Officer stuff, that is beyond me atm)
Thanks and cheers!
Ps: Are there any maniacs that PvP with this thing occaisonally? If so, what's your fave fit and circumstance?
It could be an option for me later as I can definately see the potential (armor tank + 6 mids and 8 highs = joy), but I need to have a couple bil before I try anything ******** with such an expensive ship.

It passive tanks just fine.
3x LSE II, 2 x Hardener, Shield Recharger II
2x BCU II, 4x SPR II
3x Field Pugers's
It will tank any level 4 with breathing room to spare. Of course its not as quick a killer as a CNR or as efficient with looting as a Golem, but when i had mine i didnt care cos it looked awesome.
But yeah, buy one, it will make you grin

Nice for you to get one. I hope it serves you well.
Now, passive fits are the lazy man's choice. But when you think about it, the smarter lazy man should active tank. Yes, you don't have to click a booster, but to achieve that you will have to give up damage which in turn means you'll be taking longer getting things done. So, the bane of passive tanks is their demand for slots. And it would be fine if it were a good tradeoff for more tank that is neccessary, but it isn't: you can get a good enough tank done active without having to give up damage.
Now, as RS gets an extra low slot, the best use for it would be to have an extra damage mod without otherwise having to sacrifice anything compared to a raven. You could go with something like:
6 Cruise II 1 Heavy Diminishing Nos
1 XL SB II 1 SBA II 1 Invul II 2 Specific Hards (one navy/faction, they're like 10-15 mil) 1 Heavy Cap Booster II
1 Internal DCU 4 BCS II 1 Co-Pro II
2 Core Def Cap Safe 1 Core Def Op Sol
Nice and easy. And if you shell out for a DG booster (about 100 mil), you'll save so much CPU you should be able to drop the Co-Pro for a PDS). The injector may make you flinch, but you don't have to tank at peak performance constantly, in both missions and ratting you will have time to let cap build up and the pressure put on you will most of the time not be great enough to warrant non-stop injected boosting. And, of course, with 4 damage mods you'll pre-emptively reduce your need to tank faster and end up taking less damage than you would with a passive one.
Anyway, that's my opinion.
I should say I actually do have a Rattlesnake although I use CNR for missions because of its higher damage output for the very reason that it does them faster. In theory the RS is reserved for PvP, and I've taken it out a few times, but I must admit I do so rarely -- but ironically not primarily because I'm worried about losing it (I am, but it doesn't stop me), but because I have the following dilemma (read on if you're bored):
When I'm choosing the ship in which to undock, I prefer to have a scrambler. I hate not having one, and so I am reluctant to choose a ship that I know is not fitted with one. But on the other hand, I have not fitted one to my RS or my other shield tanked navy ships because I also and equally hate to waste their tanking potential. Doing so is fine in a regular T1 or T2 ship but the navy ones I just feel are always too vulnerable for my liking (even if their tanks are many times that of their regular counterparts), and the psychological effect discourages me from fitting -- as I probably should -- a scrambler (and even a webber possibly) on them. So there you have it. You could say I have now intellectually conquered the problem; but I need to overcome it emotionally aswell. --- CEO

Apparently you can passive tank the rattlesnake as well as or maybe even better than you can with an active T2 setup, at least according to my EFT trials *cough* You have to start getting Gist X-Type XL's to have a better active setup.
Anyway none of that matters because what you have now is effectively a repainted scorpion that can actually DO stuff. It's like suddenly finding a hidden compartment on your ferarri that's big enough to store kids in so you don't have to get rid of it after all.
