I'm from the New York area and I must say that locally and nationally, NBC News is by far the best. However, internationally, I have to say that the BBC is far far better than any news service in the United States. What about you guys? ___________ I Get Money in New Eden Federation |

Edited by: SoftRevolution on 29/04/2008 00:12:57 The Beeb aren't always 100% correct or impartial (I mostly notice it when they report UK politics) but they do certainly try to be news as opposed to entertainment.
Um. News.google.com is 2nd preferred source. I type whatever I want to know about and split the difference between the results that come back.
Reuters (they sell news to other news agencies) and the Financial Times (less column inches for news so you just get the news) are less prone to telling you what the editor thinks and more prone to giving you the news.
The Independent I find kind tolerable because they like to think they sit on the fence. They'll even run opposing opinion pieces in the same issue which I think is refreshing. They're pretty leftwing though I suppose. EVE RELATED CONTENT |

How come when 1 group says Black and a 2nd group says White so many people assume Grey is the right answer? I'm a fan of the BBC myself.

Because human beings are oh so lousy at being objective, especially when they're not really trying to be.
Because the "truth" is a pretty debatable concept anyway when it comes to human behaviour.
Because I'm not really convinced by the totality of anyone's ready packaged world-view.
Perhaps "split the difference" is the wrong term. "Read with prejudices and worldview of author firmly in mind". EVE RELATED CONTENT |

BBC all the way.
Fairly good international cpverage and while they may get things wrong, I do believe they strive for more impartiality than most.
The BBC have a contract with ABC so we get news from them concerning USA. CNN suckage "love you big time for 10 dollar GI Joe" styleee. I must admit I have very little experience with NBC but I have added them to faves and will check them out soon.

The online news for NBC isn't remarkable but the broadcast news is phenomenal in my opinion for the Tri-State area and nationwide. Brian Williams and Nightly News give you the right mix of critical news and features unlike Fox which gives you an asininely biased account and then has a feature on good pizza (Mayor Sharpe James was indicted. vs. This scumbag of a mayor received justice he deserved.) ___________ I Get Money in New Eden Federation |

For podcast news I listen to two shows every workday as part of my routine:
BBC Newshour with 1 hour of international news.
Late Night Live hosted by 'public intellectual' Phillip Adams.
For TV I like the Jim Lehrer newshour on PBS.
As a side note, I listened to some CNN podcasts today and was struck by their ability to appear very slick but have no real content whatsoever.

No need to miss it, you can watch online. Very few places on the beeb cannot be accessed from a foreign IP, Iplayer being one of them. But as far as im aware, BBC news is available worldwide.

I get my news online mostly and I like the FOX website the best. It has a decent layout, aside from the placement of the current state of the US stock markets. One thing I don't like is the emphasis on pop culture they put on the homepage, but it's occasionaly interesting. |

I like my BBC for international and Local, and Sky News for UK coverage (The interactive service I find is the best!). |

I watch US corporate media just to be amazed at its bias and shallowness and the BBC is a little better, skynews or fox for a laughing fit!
I've found that its best to survey a wide selection of news outlets and try to find a mix of the most unbiased, some of my favs are listed below.
The Independent
The Real News Network Awesome stuff!

No newscompany is impartial, not even close these days.
But I usually watch FoxNews, I understand they will report from the right so I can form my opinion off of it...
But nowadays the most out of touch seems to be NBC on the liberal side, and somekind of right newspaper on the right side.
Oh and lastly, the BBC is fine, ive heard mixed feelings about them and heard alot of speculation that they are hugely anti-american, but all in all they are just as close as any other news company. |
