I don't really think that a port of EVE on other systems (MacOS, Linux) is possible. Since the renderer used for the client is DirectX 9, it will be difficult to port the API under non-windows systems ;) Though, if CCP had made a generic renderer interface for the client, an OpenGL port stills possible to code.

I have two friends with Mac (both artists so go figure) that would love to play EVE. I'm sure there are others out that that could do with something real to play on their pastel coloured machines of artiness.
Take comfort in knowing that its probably some pimply faced twit, or 40 year old virgin, who gleens everytime mommy offfers to take them to needle point lessons |

A port would be possible. The graphics are generated client side (at least I hope...) so it doesn't matter what the Windows client uses to draw the universe. However, it would be a large dev effort to service a niche market. I'd prefer that the development time on this game is spent improving the core game. ------------------------------------ On a clear disk you can see forever.

The graphics are generated client side, there's no way the server could do that. Do realize a port of the client, all the textures (.dds) should be transformed into png or common (and portable) picture file. I also think that all the network code of the client should be redevelop, since (I think) CCP uses DirectX 9 API a lot (graphics, network, sound, ...). I hope I'm wrong, but I still think that a port of the client is a gigantic task, and CCP would not hire dev to do such a work. Tough, if they intend to do it, I'm ready to code for them ;)
