So we know that CCP employees post on the forums, publicly, as themselves. (Good thing) We also know that CCP employees play EVE, most likely in such a way that most other players don't know that they are in fact CCPers. (good thing)
The question is...
Do CCP employees ever post on the forums anonymously, as their ingame characters? If so, a) would they tell us b) what would this imply?
Personally i wouldn't be surprised if some of the larger threadnaughts were actually started by CCP employees in disguise! *tinfoil*
(P.S. I am tired and this thread is dumb and can probably afford to be ignored) __________________________________

Considering what "anonymous" (we didn't know he was a Dev, honest) CCP employees have done in the past, it really is one the littler things to get concerned about.

Vegeta/CCP LeMonde was well known to post with his CCP account when he meant to use his Vegeta account, so yes it happened. But frankly CCP employees posting with their playing char doesn't bother me too much, it would just be slightly creepy if they were the ones originating those "Thank you CCP" threads. -- Heat, easy to burn your mods by mistake, hard to get it to work when you need it the most. I saw them agree when they obviously should never agree on anything, considering the different stances on CCP they display.

personally i think that they should not be able to play the game, just like people who work for the lottery and things like that cannot enter either. Its called 'Conflict of Interest'
I learnt that at work the other day when they said my gf cant sit next to me at work. I know a big word :)

In the case of my national lottery employees can enter.
Because there are proper checks in place so abuse can't happen. Obviously involving a good amount of external auditing, something we don't have here, but then save the subs no real money is supposed to change hands so it's not seen as an important matter.

Hah, that hardly counts as praise.
In fact, I think Abrazzar should be punished for insulting Prism like that.
I wonder who the hell IS a dev in this thread. I bet if it's active long enough there will be several ccp player alts in it. Then we just have to stare at the pixels long and hard and we'll know...

An issue that, for a start opens all kinds of doors for CCP to manipulate public opinion, get involved in alliance politics, and takes metagaming into the CCP office where it clearly doesn't belong. Its abit too secret police/employees playing the game for thier own agenda for me.
CCP employees should have severe restrictions on they playing the game. Including no being allowed to post on the forum with normal characters.

I don't know. doesn't their opinion as a player matter as much as everybody elses? What you get when devs don't play their game is devs who don't know how their game works, don't know about the problems the game has, etc. If they post as an anonymous player, it's not like their word carries any more weight than anybody else, right? So I doubt they will sway the public opinion more than anyone else who plays the game.
I doubt CCP lets their employees do just anything, if someone steps over the invisible line then someone will probably have a talk with them.
I also think the devs have enough brain power to think about the larger picture than their own little self.
As always I could be wrong. I'm not part of CCP so all this is pretty much guesswork :p don't take it as facts.

Edited by: fuze on 30/04/2008 10:48:08 Abuse has happened and it will happen again. Not that I want it to happen but given the nature of people, how involved they can get in a game and what's at stake you'd be naive not to expect it. CCP is trying to fight it as much as they can but they cannot prevent it for 100%.
There are also people hunting icelandic ip's and try to find CCP and their alts and that's pretty messed up. |

Caod spam being made mostly by CCP alts during Coffeebreaks and/or after drinking too many beers "for the lulz". c/d?
On a slightly more serious note, seriously, i don't care. The devs are a minority, so even if they decide to post, most people will disagree with them anyways.

If you can't stand above your being a player as a game designer you have no place in the business anyways. Rest assured that people with that deficiency are not hired by any successful games company.
The greater point of view than the average player is the signature ability of any games designer. Without it, he fails. -------- Ideas for: Mining Clouds

The obvious problem here is that if a CCP employee told everyone who his player char was, it would have to be recycled. That said, on important issues, I think the DEVs would obviously use their DEV characters to post their opinion or facts, or not post at all.
There's nothing to gain from using a secret character because there's simply no way to sway someone into seeing things from your point of view on these forums.

Ofcourse they post with both CCP characters and their private player characters. Sometimes they agree, sometimes they argue with themselves. Perfectly normal, after all EVE is designed for schizofrenia and roleplaying.

oh dear
So, you'd prefer a game where Devs only get their information from SiSi and forum posts? How realistic would that be?
