Genuine concern here!
A year or so down the line, when we're all flying our Tech 4 Battleships and the first of us are being integrated into full-blown Jovian strains, what will the newbies be doing?
Will newcomers be flying around in their Velators waiting years and years to be at a similar level to the "veterans"?

At that point there will be advanced learning skills, the implants we have now will be much, much chepaer and there will be cheap boosters available.
I don't think it'll be bad, we'll probably be busy colonising Jove Space :)

It's not as if it takes years and years to get to that position right now. Just takes training time, and that can be cut down substantially by using implants. And me personally, I'd rather not have taken a sizable amount of time to get to where I am, only to have them patch the game to allow newbs to train faster, or something ridiculous like that.
So I guess I'm all for people flying around in lesser ships for a time, to earn their position with the "veterans", yes. :)

Why should the newbs be able to instantly catch up to people who have been playing for years? That just doesn't make any sense. Newbs still have a place in established corps.

Yes...think rotation, babies being born...do you want them driving a car right away?
of course older players should have more advantages, it's common sense. ______________________________________________ Hellmar > sorry for the attitude, playing a n00b character through the current state just left me a bit bitter dev chat: Mar 18, 2004

At the moment the best clone available is roughly enough to safe the skillpoints of an advanced player, interesting to see if there will be better clones available soon... else all the "pvp grandmasters" would stay docked for the rest of their life ;)

hahahah yeah i can't wait
to see Jove Battleships tanking sentries in Yulai
and orethieves in Enigmas with 35,000,000 skill points
and instagankers in every .4 system leading out of n00bville with a million cruise missiles and Fast Talk 5
yeah it'll be great
we'll surely attract a lot of new people with the current crop of tards
hahahah lock me delete me bite me i don't care, it's been a lousy day and you know i'm right anyway.

Skill specialization is what makes it possible for newbies to compete with vets as time goes by. Nearly everyone I know whos been in since release has at least 2 battleships trained up, and lots of production or combat skills they don't really need.
Someone joining today will never be as good as a vet if they both specialize in something advanced, but a newb can be just as good a rifter pilot, or miner as someone thats been in forever in a couple months. The only thing they can't do is be as good a generalist as us oldtimers.

Lets put it this way. When my main started early in the game it took weeks to get into a cruiser. Now I have mined with corps in 0.0 that were weeks old and everyone was in tier 1 battleships. The game has evolved such that it no longer takes such a long time to advance especially with the help of corps. We take in newbs in all the time in my mains corp. We just added about 10 lately. I also donate isk to get them outfitted quickly. A new person can have lots fun climbing up the skill tree and exploring new abilities. Panty free and luvin' it! |

How many skills have been added since the retail?
Do you think if you started today you would do it the same?
If you could redistribute your sp would you?
The answer is that the noobs have a better idea than us utility old farts. It will come to pass that starting new you will be looking at one fine particle of a speciality. Work towards being the best at it. Someday soon they will introduce about 200 skills all at once. Thats what is needed. --------------------------
Garsh ma it soo cool killing people in there space thingies |
