This idea is not expected to be perfect but an idea to grow on.This will anger some hardcore players (pvp hardcore players mostly)
I really want some feedback on this so forum moderators please don lock or delete this thread.
Here's my idea that in my opinion would make EVE a better game. Those of you who think this game is realistic will not like this idea But it's not about being realistic. It's about making this game fun to play for all types of players. It can be both realistic to a point and fun at the same time. I mean real life is not necessary fun all the time. In fact real life is less fun than fun. And trying to make a game work in theory realistic if we were this advanced will not make a fun game. I pay a monthly fee to have fun so this is my idea of fun:
1. there are the pvp players and the non-pvp players. because not everyone is interested in pvp.
2.make a crossable buffer between pvp and non pvp.
3. Obviously in non-pvp zone shooting at other payers is not allowed at all. Shooting other players is only a pvp zone privelege.
4.Anyone can cross the zones and live where they please but non-pvp players are warned when they cross into pvp only areas.
5.there should be npc's in both zones.
6.there should be 1.0 to 0.0 in both zones.
7.the 1.0 to 0.0 only means how tough the npc's will be.
8.ALL ORE TYPES are in both zones and work the same way. The more valuable the ore is the lower the security it will be in.
9.Monopolies on systems are allowed only in pvp zone because they can fire on other players. 10.Ore AND isk will only be useful in the zone it was mined. So to avoid pvp players from camping belts in non-pvp and then hauling it to pvp or mining ore in non-pvp and selling in non-pvp AND then transfering the isk to pvp zone.
11. Anyone in non-pvp who wishes to play in pvp and wishes to transfer their millions of isk to pvp zone with them will have to apply to CCP for the transfer and a fee will apply. This person will not be allowed to apply again for one month. 12.Both zones will have their seperate economies.
13. There should be more interesting npc missions on both zones. Especially in non-pvp to keep it interesting.
14. Fill this in with your idea...
This may not be perfect the way I put it but it's an idea more talented individuals may be able to add and expand on this idea. This is all to make the game fun for both the non-pvp players and the pvp players and those who start in non-pvp and wishes to move to pvp.
Why did I come up with this you ask? Because I am a non-pvp mostly and occassional pvp type person who pays a monthly fee to enjoy myself. The privelage of mining valuable ore only found in far 0.0 systems should be attainable without worrying about gate camping and alliance momopolies where it is impossible for small corps to get a piece of the pie (no pun intended). In non-pvp zone I will only have to worry about tough npc's and no gate camping keeping me from ever getting any valuable ore. Pvp types dont really mix with non-pvp types. I love this game but I dont particulary like alot of the people who take the fun away.
Flamers stay away. I want mature constructed critism. Not just straigth out flaming.

Edited by: Auman on 26/04/2004 16:33:43 To me that just sounds like a kind of sharding which would take away the appeal of Eve for me and (I suspect) a lot of other people.
Also I think people need to accept that PvP combat is part of this game and will always be. You already have a buffer zone in 0.5+ space that's virtually risk free you just don't have high end ores
Also bear in mind that pretty much all activities in Eve are forms of PvP whether it's mining, manufacturing or pvp combat. You are always competing with someone it just doesn't always involve guns

this wouldt work, what u are asking for is 2 seperate servers, i think we need the ability to set a "pvp" flag, so u can only attack others who have the flag set to pvp too. (1 change per month or more)
Or that we have to be the same skillpoint lvl to attack +/- serveral 1000s, so u would have some targets.
right now i thing the PVP/pirates group are ruining it for them self, cuz the keep pushin the the game mecanic border (yulai)

Doesn't get my vote, I'm afraid. For me, THE most fascinating aspect of Eve is that the entire game takes place in one galaxy / server cluster. The PvP/non-Pvp split sounds rather close to sharding the server to me, which would absolutely be anathema.
It's a single world, with one set of rules. Yes, it's not perfect yet, and there are certainly elements that I'd like changed, but Eve's getting there.
Nowhere will ever be absolutely safe, even 1.0 systems, but by working with other players, within corps or alliances, the safety-in-numbers rule will see you through, if that's what you want.

I Think the idea of a PvP flag that could be set on or off would be a good thing, but I do want some risk so I dont think it should mean that I could not be attacked by players if I have the flag set to non-PvP.
I think instead is should pop up a warning box on the would be attacker saying that first I have the flag set to non-PvP do they really want to target me as they will take a small security hit doing so, and if they decide to continue and attack me, then the security hit be significantly larger if in empire space. Obviously if at war with my corporation I am fair game regardless of how the flag is set.
If I was outside empire space, there would be a small security hit for attacking a non-PvP person (25-50% of current security hit for attacking a random person in empire). This may stop some people from attacking me, but again no gaurentees. As there should be no gaurentee that I will not get attacked by anything but NPCs.
With that kind of system there may be some people that will not attack, but some people that live in 0.0 space and could care less about their security standing will continue to attack me as they see fit, and may be inclined to pod me even more because I have caused then to have to hit the "Ok" button if they choose to attack anyways. This also may limit some of the gate camping as now there is a slight delay in the targeting of said player approaching the gate as the warning must be acknowledged before the attack can start.
Just my two cents at an attempt at providing a meaningful response to someone elses idea.

Hey Mal, I posted this in Ideas forum and in General. In my opinion it fits in either place so I posted it in both. I dont care for your opinion. A moderator took my post from general and put it in ideas. thus causing the double post in Ideas but it was'nt me

Bad Bad idea.
Shoot it in the head.
On a more serious note, implementing this or the PvP flag idea would take the uniqueness of eve away and make it just another mmog. I like the fact that eve is completely different and thats why I play.
Yea I been killed tonnes of times but that aint stopped me playin. The risks make the rewards that much more sweeter.
Why dont you just DIE DIE DIE !!!!

I see where you are going with this and to be honest where you are going is why i quit the following games. Anarchy Online, Ultima Online, Dark age of Camelot and Star Wars Galaxies. Eve is to my knowledge one of the few if not the only one where pvp involves real risks, all the above games either you can only fight pvp in "special areas" or else you have to "declare" your self as a pvp'er or else you die but "clone" with all your gear safe and sound. In these games pvp is relegated to a seperate seldom used aspect of the game and everyone either solo plays or team ganks npcs at spawn points, again and again and again etc etc etc. Please accept that Eve is a dangerous place to live, you can choose to avoid the interaction of pvp combat/mining/trading for as long as you want I did at first, but now im in one of the top pvp units and i get blown up more often than not but thats the rush and the fun for me. If you learn more about it and join in with a cheap frigate you can afford to lose you will find it more appealing than you might think. I for one hope Eve devs think more about making the combat more relative and involving rather than removing the one aspect of the game that has kept me here.
