Hi, I'm starting this thread cause I see a lot of discussion about the use of 3rd party programs in the game and wanted to give my opinion about the matter. It as been said that it shouldn't be aloud cause it gives advantage to the one that uses them, then how do you explain the use of voice communication between gang members? Dosn't that give advantage to group of players that speak the same language over a group that happen to be from different country's and have different languages? reading and writing a text is not the same thing as to year and speak words over a voice system.... Don't EVE want to be an international game? Does it encourage the creation of country or language specific alliances and corps in a way so that cannot be players from other country's in them?
The game is balanced in the way to encourage gang play, but that do not mean single players cannot enjoy it, in fact I think that there are lot of single players, and it must be created some kind of protection to them. A single player almost cannot go into null sec to rat or mine due not only to the alliances controlling that space but also due to the roaming gangs that go seek and destroy everything in their path..
I have a couple of suggestions to make about all this:
- Why not to give barges two more high slots that can only be used to fit a stealth device and a specific probe launcher, create a probe that can be shot at gate and it jumps to the other system and give info on ships approaching that gate and lasts for two or so hours. A miner than can be in a system and have info on all the entrance gates to that system. - Give haulers the same kind of launcher and fit a probe that shot to the gates tells the player if there is a bubble camp on the other side, alternatively show bubbles in real time on the map, bubbles are so unfair game... - In the null sec systems controlled by NPC put in gate and station guns that way a single player could access some of the null sec space the player alliances still have all the NPC unclaimed space. And if a player as good standings with the NPC faction why not have their assistance in case of attack by other player?
Ok, think that's all, let the flames begin
And yes, I'm a carebear alt. And yes, english is not my first language. And yes, I usually play alone with my alts |

Well... the fact that Eve has built in voice support kind of nullifies your point of having to use a third party tool to communicate with speech. Pretty much all of your points can be removed by saying "use a scout". You have another 2 character slots on your account, make an alt and have him jump into the 0.0 chokepoint first to see if it's clear.
Doesn't NPC 0.0 already have guns outside stations as well? Why do you want gate guns? People still camp low sec in battleships since they can tank the guns, same thing in 0.0 except you can put a bubble on the gate so you don't have to worry so much about your lock times... |

No, there shouldn't be special protection for solo players.
No, there shouldn't be special protection for haulers and miners.
No, ventrilo and TS are not comparable to the 'other' 3rd party programs we have been discussing lately.
No.
