I was looking about the net recently when I came across http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZK6WTDO3f4c&feature=related
A Homeworld 2 Mod, Homeworld 2 being a 5ish year old space-based RTS... which still seems to be putting EVE to shame when it comes to the raw mechanics of space combat. I'm not here to whine though but I would like to know why not? Why can't EVE have a real ballistics model that will stop people from being able to shoot through asteroid? Why can't EVE have some of the more spectacular explosions and debris from damage displayed in that vid. Why can't arcs of fire be modeled as well as varying damage depending on where on the ship a hit is taken? Why can't we have some basic ship appearance customization along the lines of base color, stripe color and a basic logo?
To be clear I don't want EVE to become Homeworld 2, it's a great game but EVE is a different one and should keep some of it's differences, but there are some valuble lessons to be learned in the Homeworld series that seem to have been skipped in EVE and it would be nice if we could pick up just a few of these things and in doing so make a dramatically more lively game. If there are any specific reasons why some of these things haven't been undertaken I'd also like to hear that just so that I can understand the limitations the devs must work under in this. |

Because when you have to transmit all those data to 100 PC at the same time and do all the calculation for those 100 ships firing, seeing the nice display from different angles, ecc. you will not have lag, you will have uber/super/mega lag. |

I know what you mean mate.
Ive only played the original home world (1) and yes it looks really really crap but the little graphics count.. the turrets moving .. the projectiles being shot just missing the smaller ships because they cant track, but maybe getting a luck hit or 2.
I mean it would be great if this could be possible but it isn't .. all the calculations that would have to be done would be to immense to work, no matter how much i would like my guns to sound real , my ship to sway realistically to the pound of 1400MM arty , lasers actually glancing off my ship when it sais it is (lol).
But meh, would love it but would need some sexy designers to pull it off. |

Now this would be cool!! As it is you can create a logo for your corp, why not for your ship? And for those in corps, having the corp logo displayed on their ship if they so choose. |

Just as a response to some of the comments here, I'm not asking for the same volume of fire as portrayed in that vid, though it would be some kind of awesome if it was achieved I'm just asking for the firepower that we do throw around to be treated in a somewhat realistic fashion instead of the rather hamfisted approach that exists now. We're not talking about something impossible here, a CS server dosen't explode when everyone starts going full auto at the same time, so I think EVE should be capable of handling more people throwing way fewer bullets around without physics effects like kickback and pushing the hit ship around. Just a simple calculation where the turret aims at the ship and is given a skills effected degree of randomness in the shot to produce to misses and hits. |

Edited by: Buyerr on 05/05/2008 21:13:26 well mate.. because of lazy ass programmers and developers... of the lack of fonds, which comes from the lack of marketing attraction which comes primary from the lack of dev response to make eve a casual entertainment even when it is not a life obsession.
that's the main reason.. else anything could be done
ps: graphic does not cause server lag,the calculations needed to be done is already done when shown on grid and calculated shoting, range and target, it is primary just a matter of grafic which is primary loaded from your own computer by the package info you get anyway from the client.. so don't see the problem there. I declare war on stupidity |

Did you know that missiles used to fly around asteroids? It was removed because it caused lag.
