CCC gives +17.64% regen and SMC only a weak +15%?
lO1 SMC ar3 the sux? No, my friends, no. Not that easy.
It has another effect, tied to two facts : - Modules eat units of capacitor, not a percent of it. - The capacitor recharges like that : you have a value V of cap, the regen 'ticks' : you get +X cap.
With CCCs you always have a higher X. With SMC, when a module activates, it has less effect on the next X you will get, because it's cost in percent of your cap total is smaller.
Sidenote : for jumping or onlining modules, actions which are percent based : go CCC.

Originally by: Jill Antaris SMCs are worth the ISK on heavy Cap injected Fittings(Dualrepp Mega, Activetanked Abaddon) that even canŠt substain with a heavy Cap booster. The Rig itself gives more time till zero Cap becomms a issue. This 30-45 Seconds donŠt look mutch but are actualy a livesaver in many tight small Gang or solo Fights.
In PVE they are only worth Fitting for buffer style Tanks(aka Gank fittings that tank till everything is dead, not perama). But this kind of PVE style is not that common so mostly people fit CCCs for a reason here.
People use Trimarks etc on those types of ships. You are almost always dead or make a kill before you run out of cap booster charges, hence cap is less of a issue than buffer.
Depends on the size of the Gangs, 0.0, Low Sec, etc. Trimarks and Nano Pumps are also good choices but if I can decide if i survive some more seconds without cap, impossble to do damage or with cap impossible tank a few seconds more i prefere the Damage. Especialy vs Neut/Nos Setups I realy prefere more Cap to more Armor/better Reppingpower, but this is more a personal choice of mine.
Well, people can justify anything. Some people can justify cargo expanders on revelations ("it carries more seige cycles".) but in the real world, people gravitate towards what is most efficent.
For day to day real world pvp or pve usage, SMC's dont have a place because situations where SMC's are useful hardly never exist. PvPers use trimarks etc because other rigs make a better diference than SMC's. PvEers dont use cap boosters since cap recharge is better (and yes, we have a pve'er in this thread who is in the minority who thinks otherwise) --

A point about SMC:
It can be seen as being like a Cap Battery, but without the fitting costs. If you fit SMCs in rig slots, then use Cap rechargers/Cap Power Relays in mod slots, you're not having to deal with the ridiculous powergrid demands of cap batteries.
1. Buy Vexor 2. Fit for Gank 3. Suicide ISK farmer 4. Grind sec 5. see 1. |

Thats your opinion, not mine. If you find yourself not in the situations I pointed out you are right they are no use to you. A Dualrepp Mega runs out of cap faster that out of Cap Charges, with a SMC it donŠt. Also Armor Rigs slow ships down, SMCs donŠt.

I know people that use them. People often set up her ships for a substaiable/longlasting tank in PVE. There is nothing wrong with this. But on the other Hand there are people that think using so many Slots for tank is a wast and fit unsubstainalbe Gank Fittings for PVE and yeah Im one of this people to. Because permatanking Fittings are way to slow for me. ----------------------
Nerf Lasers! Thay need far to less CPU and Grid to Fit. Still using not enught Cap and do far to mutch Damage. O wait... they allready did... =( |

SMC rigged dual rep mega?
Please do explain this real world fit for pvp or pve. And please, none of the "I fire a extra cycle/volley before I die". There is a reason why people do armour/shield buffer tanks insted of cap buffer tanks. --

7x Ion II, Heavy Dimsishing Nos Standard Meds 2x LAR II, DC II, 2 ANP(TS or Corpii C), 2 MFS II
Auxillary Current Router, Nano Pump, SMC
Tank is not the strong point but agility is fare better than on a plated up Neutron Setup. I mostly prefere Ions because her Null range, that gives Nanofags a run for her money. Pick your targets. ----------------------

I agree SMC are very niche. Basically they are best used in a situation where you are going to be out of cap anyway and want to last as long as possible, but not rely on cap boosters.
Tach Abaddon without perfect fitting skills would be one example. Injector setup is not really practical in laggy situations and extended deployments far from home. Without perfect skills you can't fit 3 discharge rigs, so you can fit 2 and a SMC.
(Of course that much isk in rigging is not very cost effective for fleet applications, and with the Apoc boost, it now fits the sniper role better.)
