I renewed my account this week, mainly because my son wanted to play Eve.
I played through BETA - made one of the very first Corps on the Server and quit 7 months 25 days ago after one CTD too many.
Logging in to the game - all the good memories came back, a few of my old mates are still in game.
So guys - 7 months - 25 days - whats changed ?

Well thats great to hear - when I left this game I left with huge misgivings as I always knew it had massive potential, but in the end the server crashes drove me insane.
IM dabbling now - been helped out with a cruiser ( like many ppl who leave games I gave away my stuff so thank goodness for friends ).
When my son gets bored - and his usual time limit on any mmorpg is about 2 weeks Ill play a little more full time and see the changes for myself.
EDIT: ddogg = Lister, crappy char selection screen :P

Edited by: Koda on 27/04/2004 15:37:12 Edited by: Koda on 27/04/2004 15:36:28 I've played steadily since US release.
I've heard that CTD's are much fewer (never were a problem for me). Tech II items are bleeding into the game, the most important items being interceptor frigates. 0.0 space now has conquerable stations. There are npc battleships in deep space. Arkanor/spodumain is in. Server population is about twice what it was when you left.
I'm sure there is a ton of stuff I missed.

So in other words Koda you've played since the game went live??
Anyways yes the games changed much over the past 7 months. Sounds like you quit went I quit originally. Then I came back about Mid-November, and never regreted it. I mean when I quit we had the CTD's (which i saw very few anyways), lots of people where starting to leave (EVE looked like it was anyway).
Then come around Castor time everyone started coming back, more people started joining up, EnB started closing and now we are where we are. Lots of people playing consistantly, new life bought in by free-trails by CCP to the game. Lots of things started to change and change for the better.
Overall its much better then it was back then. Besides that you have constant fighting out in the 0.0 space it seems like. If its not one group its another. I'm sure it will be a nice enjoyment coming back and as addiciting as ever Fear The Bunny

I'll fill you in on everything that's happened until now:
First... the Earth cooled. Then the dinosaurs came... but they got to fat and turned into oil. Then the Arabs bought Mercedes Benz's.
WHOOPS! Wrong set of changes...

Lister, take it from me man, I did almost exactly what you did, I wasn't in beta, but I played from retail until my first subscription ended and I didn't renew. I was fed up with EVE for so many reasons... Mainly because I loved the game and it's potential, and wanted to cry how unfinished and wasted the game felt.
But aver the months I was watching the forums, and hunting for any interesting info I could find. And one night I was bored of my other games, and couldn't sleep, so I said, bah, it's just 14.95... Let me try it for a month and see whats improved.
I logged on and let me tell you, almost immediately the game felt like brand new in terms of how cool it was.
Some of the best new features for me (by no means a complete listing):
1: The warp to ranges, are very useful I can plan my attacks now more completely based on my setup. 2: Empire space is more like it was meant to be with .4 and lower systems being more dangerous. We got 40K + rats in Empire space now, and that alone makes life much more exciting! Plus Player pirates can nab you in empire again, but not gate camp! So it's a lot more exciting all around. 3: The UI is a lot cleaner, more intuitive than when I left, and quite a bit less bugged. Oh sure it still has issues from time to time, but it's a LOT better now. Some folks who complain about it now just have no idea how much worse it used to be LOL. You can even turn it transparent now with a single click so you won't over clutter your screen with windows like before. 4: Frigates are making a comback, even standard frigs are much more useful than before, you don't need an interceptor to be a threat to a Battleship now. You just need a few buddies, some luck and some skill. 5: The server population even durring off peak hours (when I play), is as high as peak time used to be when I left! That means there is always plenty of players buzzing around to interact with. I don't feel so lonesome anymore.. And durring peak hours, it's even more packed. 6: Eve radio is a big hit, I gotta say that EVE Radio is half the reason I'm having so much fun these days, it really helps immerse me in the game better, and if none of your friends or corp mates are on, there is always people to talk with on the EVE-Radio in game chat channel, plus the DJ's do requests :) 7: Agent missions still suck, BUT they suck a lot less... They don't break as easily, sending you failure game mails because you crashed to desktop or due to missing quest items that didn't spawn when you killed the rat... I'm sure some of those things still happen, but so far not to me :) Also agents are much more user friendly, you can see who you can get, and how much more work you need to do to get new ones. good change! 8: I hear there are even NPC pirate agents you can get now, though I think they might be unable to give you any special rewards. I don't do pirate agents, so I'm no expert on em.
Overal, I would say that EVE has come a LONMG way in seven months, maybe not as far as we all would have hoped, but to put it another way, it's a lot more like the game we should have had at retail.
Will I get bored again? Who knows... It's entirely possible... I know when World of Warcraft comes out, if that game is any good, which it probably will be since blizzard is making it, and thier alpha is more polished and complete than many games that go live, I will have a hard time sticking around if I have to choose. BUT on the other hand, EVE is now easily the best space based MMOPRG I ever looked at. And quite frankly I can't think of a single player space game I'd rather play either.
So overal I say welcome back, and I think you will happy with the improvements. Lastly in case your wondering, When i left I was SICK of eve... So for EVE to have won me over again, CCP must have done something right...
Galaxion > If you drove a car shaped like a thorax women would call you Demangel > Dude... I would call.. Demangel > wait that sounded g@y I bet. Galaxion > Just a bit.

Hi Lister, and welcome back!

I think that you will find out that the CTD issues that drove you insane (and cost you ar few ships IIRC ;) rarely happen at all now. The game is much more stable, and there are some new stuff to play around with - all in all a lot better game than 7 months ago.
