Hello I have just got a new computer, here are the specs;
Windows Vista home premium Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40Ghz 3.00 GB RAM. NIVDIA GeForce 7050 / NVIDIA nForce 610i.
Now I know I gfx Card is a bit rubbish(or so I have been told) but does everything else cut the mustard? I am not very computer literate but I am slowly learning so I am looking for some advice. What should I change? Could I play three a/c at the same time with this setup w/o serious lag?
If I go for a better card what could I get for around ú150 I really dont know what cards are good and what are bad infact how do you tell?
thx. |

Linkage
Get yourself that and you are sorted, 3 accounts shouldn't be a major issue as long as you don't intend to be doing any large blobbing on all 3 at the same time. |

Yes, your machine is good but I would throw Vista out since its so crappy. :)
Anyway, I agree with the previous poster. 8800GT or 9600GT are both good by todays standards.

Just to add to what the others have said (I am in total agreement)..please make sure your power supply is capable of running any new graphics card that you may be considering.
I recommend at least a 480w one and if an upgrade is required try to stay away from "modular" cabled ones as these introduce more losses and can give bad connections on the cheaper models. |

i hear server 08' is much cleaner than vista and has same capabilities.
if you can 'obtain' a copy, play around on google you should see some tips on how to tweak it for PC use (ie: better support for all things game related).
i know a couple ppl that have tried it out and recommended me doing this when i build my new sys so check it out. |

This is very true, Server 2008 is proving to be as fast if not faster than XP 64bit. however there are some drawbacks:
Some applications just will not run! and you will have to invest in server versions of some applications. |

Usually you will find a sticker either on the back beside where you plug in power lead or on the PSU side nearest CPU inside your case.
Also for some graphics card pwr requirement info: Nice Piccie! |

As an alternative to the nVidia cards, I'd like to point out the ATI HD3850. I bought this card a couple of days ago to replace my HD2600, and I'm very impressed with it. Runs Eve trinity 1680x1050 resolution at over 60 FPS in station, 80 - 100 FPS outside. I don't know how that compares to the 8800GT, but it is at least cheaper.
However, the major drawback of all ATI cards, as far as I can see, is that getting Linux to run on one is an absolute bear. |
