Hi there, just joined a 0.0 alliance with access to big nasty Sansha rats. I'm in no way specced for using a battleship "professionally" (I stick to T2 frigates or T1 cruisers for PVP) but I think I've got the bare minimum of skills needed to earn my ISK with 0.0 ratting when no reds are around.
Using an Armageddon with the smallest large beam lasers and multifreq crystals I can break the rats' tanks, but I'm slow, I need to warp out frequently as my cap fails me, and being in close I've had some close calls when stuck on rocks.
Assuming a totally T1 fit, what Amarr BS would you suggest for 3xBS ratting in a lower-risk higher return way, and how would you fit it? Something with free high slots for tractor, salvager, and/or cloak might be wise. I have no illusions that this ship is to be used in PVP. |

I have the ISK for it. How would I fit it? What's it good for? |

Mayby it is a bit oldschool to go back 3 pages but here is a fitting thread:
Fittings
Also I canŠt realy imagine that you fail with a Amarr BS vs Sanshas.
7 DHP, Tractor Beam 2 CR II, AB LAR, 2xEM Hardner, 2xThermal Hardner, 3 Heat Sinks
4 Heavy Drones, 5 Light(vs Scrambler Frigs)
Xray, Standard and Microwave Crystalls
Its allways the same, if you have problems with the tank on a Amarr BS, you simply lack Damage.
Harbinger also does the job well, if you are short in Skills.

Well, like I said, my skills fail at big ships. DHP is the littlest big pulse laser, right? Would it fit if I used 6 of the bigger type instead of 7 of the smaller type... so I could fit a salvager or cloak. Second, is the AB really necessary for belt ratting, or should I fit something like a tracking computer instead? |

DHP is the smaller BS Puls Laser, Mega Puls can fit with high Skills but i suggest you donŠt have this skills, so DHP will be the better Weapon for you in the beginning.
Using 1 Salvager is mostly not worth it, because you need about 30-60 Seconds to salvage a single BS, using a second ship for this is mostly far more effective. Also if you loose Damage with less that 7 Lasers, you need to tank more.
The AB is mostly to close range to some spawns that are a little to far away from the warpin point(30-50km) of the Belt, I would not rat without it(if you use a Snipingfitting with Beams and warp at 100 into the Belt it is possible, but looting with it is pain).
Also most of your tanking Problems are handmade by low DPS, if you have 3 Heat Sinks you can kill everything in the Belt real quick so you take not that mutch damage. |

Ok good info here. Let's change the question a bit and say that I'm farming spawns... not going to kill the little baby rats unless they are scramblerwebbers. Would it be wiser to warp in at 100 with some kind of sniperfit BS (Apoc maybe?) to rain death from afar, and just do the looting/salvaging with a well-tanked cruiser later? If so how would you fit it? |

Apoc with Mega Puls should get the Job well done.
8 Mega Beam 2x TC, Cap Recharger, MWD(more for donŠt get caugt while moving the Ship out and in the system, since a sniping Fitting canŠt do mutch close range) MAR, EM & Thermal Hardner, EANM, 2x Heat Sinks, 1x Heat Sink or RCU depending on your skills
Realy depends on the number of Belts if you have the time to salvage or yust building up BS Spawns and kill them. If you have more than 10 Belts it is mostly better to yust take the good loot with a close range Ship on the fly. If you are short in belts a and you need to wait for the respawns a salvage ship pays ofc. |

For low skills, Apoc with Megapulse will do the trick nicely. Stupid amount of cap, lots of room for tank.
For higher skills, arma/baddon. My Geddon rat fit used dual heavy beams (modulated) and 4 sentry drones. Never moved, killed great. Permatanked everything fine. For the Baddon, you could easily fit a full rack of megabeams, 2 sentry drones and 5 lights. (5 mediums 5 lights if you prefer). Fit maximum amount of heatsinks, because your income/hr is directly proportionate to how fast you kill stuff, and if you kill stuff faster, you don't need as big of a tank. (I think I used 3-4 HS). 3 CCC rigs will make your life a lot easier, and the components drop out there too so it wont be too costly.
Some people prefer a geddon with pulse and a MWD. You can fit a salvager in the last high if you choose that route, and use cap booster supplied by the rat drops to keep yourself cap healthy, and fit 5 (4 if you don't have great drone skills - scramming frigs may be an issue) ogres.
Forget the cloak. Make a few safespots, they'll get bored eventually. Your lock time suffers by giant amounts, and you don't need it anyway. |
