I'm not suggesting hiring npc crews to man ships, I mean ships that can be manned by more than one PLAYER. If the option to eject while in station to your pod could be available, why not have a ship that can be docked with in space with different positions manned by each player?
Kind of like say a tank in Battlefield 1942, where one player drives, and another runs the turret. Players can switch roles, but the ship MUST be manned by at least one player. How about a ship with special turrets or positions that are manned by players? Like an engineer position that handles certain modules like shield boosters, a weapons officer that locks and fires weapons, etc. If the ship's destroyed you get a bunch of pods in space.
Anyway I'm sure the rest of the players could come up with other ways this could be incorporated into the game. Like player manned and operated structures (like guard towers or something).

No thanks. 
Interesting idea for games like BF1942 and BF 'Nam and other FPS type games, but not Eve.

I think this is the idea behind Titans, though I might be wrong...
Would be very cool, IMHO... For each person you have in the ship, you get to control X number of turrets or something...

Well that would be fun for a bit i suppose. But having to have all those people online and wanting to do what you want to do would be an absolute pain in the ass. Only way they could do it is if they first implemented npc's, then made it possible to take over the functions of some of them.
Tell you what, as soon as we get npc's, 3rd person avatars, ship/station insides and planetary surfaces THEN i will say i agree with this idea =p

Interesting thought.
You could have something like a person specialized in navigation be the pilot, while someone with high gunnery skills, man the guns, so you get the best of both people in one ship.
Although it would be better if there were special modules that required multiple people to control, stuff that would be more powerful than standard items. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

Anyway, I think it would be nice for Titans. They're big enough to make you vomit, and if they were to be limited to 8 slots in each category they'd have serious cost-to-efficiency ratio problems. (Can be fixed easily, yes, but this is more interesting).
I mean, seriously, only corporations and alliances capable of some serious co-operation should be able to get them, and such a thing would only make that even more true.

To add, have a new skill set: Ship Crew (or something...). Training up Ship Engineer gives your own skills like shield and cap recharge a bonus when operating a tandem ship. Ditto for combat skills and whatnot, but they ONLY take effect when you're crewing a specific position. ___winterblink/warp_drive_active/eve_nature_vraie// |

Besides Monsang, did you even read the post? It said multiple PLAYERS in the ship, not NPC crew (which our ships do have). -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

I like the npc crew more, it has no lag doesnt go afk and if they would build in a Experience generator it would be worthwhile to not get blown up. Having to upkeep your crew wouldn't make everyone and his dog fly Battleships. __________________________

I suggested this about 6 months ago in the Idea's forum and if I dont say so myself its the best idea the world has ever seen ever 
Crews which effect ships stats and can be traded like pokemon or forced to be jettisoned from pirated ships.
Everyone wants more ways to customise their ship and give it a slight edge
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

Microsoft once made a game called Allegiance where players could take turret points in capital ships, fly small fighters etc. Never played it myself but the premise sounds like what your getting at.

actually, it was pretty fun. 1 pilot and 2 gunners. The pilot would be at station and request some gunners, you then just click on the request to board. Pilot takes off into battle.
the only thing that made this work was that there was no locking feature, sort of like a FPS targeting.
Not sure how it would work in eve since when you're locked on somebody that's it, activate module and wait. would get boring, and unless your in a frigate, there is not much piloting to be done. ______________________________________________ Hellmar > sorry for the attitude, playing a n00b character through the current state just left me a bit bitter dev chat: Mar 18, 2004
