Edited by: Haddon Mirk on 04/05/2008 22:47:41 I built a new PC with a SATA hard drive, and installed Eve on it, but am having trouble getting my old settings to work.
I kept the old ide hard drive, and retrieved the settings folder from it, and dropped it in over the new one created on the SATA drive, but when I log in it just dumps everything and goes back to default.
I'd really rather not have to re-make my settings as there were loads of them, and I can't in all honesty remember what they all were - loads of overview settings, Market quickbar settings, channel settings, Bookmark folders etc.
Since I still have the old settings, does anyone know why overwriting the default settings with my existing ones does not work?

Delete each and every setting (the entire folder) on the new drive first. This means you will see the EULA popup, then you know you deleted the right one. After clicking "accept", exit EVE. Look where the settings folder was created. Copy the ENTIRE contents of the old drive settings folder over the newly created settings folder. It should work now.

Edited by: Haddon Mirk on 05/05/2008 10:29:03 That's exactly what I did - I'm struggling to see how overwriting my entire settings directory with the settings directory that contains all the settings I want doesn't put all my settings back....
Nevertheless, after doing this when I open eve, I get the eula screen, and all the defaults are back, none of my settings are there.
Any ideas why? This is doing my swede in, and it's going to be a really big hassle to re-do my settings - I have overview settings for pretty much any situation you can envisage, and I have multiple accounts that I'd need to re-do them on - this is a big deal for me!

Settings are the user### and char### .dat files in:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings (this assume you're using XP, they're in a similar place for Vista)
If you use the LUA switch, your setting are stored under where the game is installed instead.
I've copied my setting around to different PCs several times before, so there's something you're missing.

Thanks Commander Shag!
I still don't know what I was missing - but this time I copied all the individual files you pointed out there, and dropped them into the existing settings directory (previously I was simply copying the directory itself and overwriting the whole thing).
I don't understand why it would make a difference - the effect should have been the same as far as I understand, but it has worked this time!
