Howdy all, me and my corp mates are about 30-60 days from being able to fly and reasonably fit our desired t2 ships. We of course will not be able to do all t2 gear in all cases, but in most cases it shouldn't be a problem.
My question to you who are experienced in small fleets is what ship combo from this list below would be best in most cases. Looking for a quick (though not necessarily all nano)fleet able to get in an out fast enough while still retaining some DPS ability.
The list is by pilot and ship class they are able to fly.
Pilot1- Cov ops/ Inty/ BC Pilot2- AF/HAC/BC Pilot3- HAC/BS/BC Pilot4- AF/BS/BC Pilot5- BC/Inty

Edited by: Asuka Smith on 05/05/2008 21:15:13 I will assume low-sec, so...
1: Taranis 2: Nano-Ishtar 3: Nano-Ishtar 4: Nano-Typhoon 5: Taranis

Ah yes, forgot to mention that most of this will be low sec. Also all pilots are Gallente

Edited by: Delnas on 05/05/2008 22:48:05 Pilot four is your only weak point. He can either fly an AF and only add minor damage or he could be in a relatively slow ship and thus constantly primary. His life expectancy isn't good. As such, I'd put him in a cheap BC and use him to double web your target so it cannot flee through the gate.
Targets in low sec are scarce in many areas and if you use Taranis/Taranis/Ishtar/Ishtar you won't be able to effectively hunt on the gates or at stations. Tarani are instantly popped by gate guns, and being the first to attack they will probably be the gate gun's first targets. The Ishtar's problems are two fold; They can last approximately two uninterrupted minutes under sentry fire with two LSE tanks. This means the third time the gate gun cycles onto them they will have to leave almost immediately (gate guns cycle to a new target every sixty seconds). The Ishtar's second issue with Sentry guns lyes with their damage; one gun will fire at each drone, destroy it quickly, then cycle targets meaning the Ishtar's drones will die quickly and using T2 Heavies that quickly adds up in price (not to mention decrease of damage). You could probably kill a Battleship on the gate, even one with a strong tank, but your Ishtar's would be extremely vulnerable to anything that joins the fight and can prevent them from warping out, and you will likely lose many drones and 1-2 Intercepters.
I would fly Brutix/Brutix/Brutix/Brutix/Brutix. They are cheap, are fast enough to outrun a blob, and 2+ can perma-tank gate guns. Plus, their guns put out massive DPS and their drones (unlike the Myrmidon) are not their main source of damage. You could then fit all of them with ECM drones, which are fairly cheap, and prevent many of your targets from hurting you. You would stand a decent chance fighting multiple battleships on the gate, could also hunt in belts, and would not need to worry about losing something as expensive as a nanoIshtar. It would be a great gang for you to learn with.
Taranis/Taranis/Ishtar/Ishtar/Ishkur would make a great 0.0 gang. It is fast enough to avoid blobs and escape gate camps, you don't have to worry about sentry guns, and won't take sec hits. The Ishkur would be your heavy tackler/webber, the Tarani would scout for targets and lock them down. Your Ishtar's would be your heavy hitters; they would drop off their drones then orbit at 50km+. You couldn't take out an organized gang, but you could raid well and avoid blobs.
If Pilot4 is willing to cross train, the Hyena, Rapier, and Huginn would compliment your gang very well. He could probably fly a Hyena in less then 15 days. It would allow him to be a webbing tackler and stay out of hostile web range. Great in 0.0 for keeping the enemy from fleeing through a gate, and improving your effectiveness fighting other nano ships.
Edit: The reason why Pilot 4 in a BC and the rest of you in Nanoships is a bad thing when 5 BCs are a good thing is because he is the slowest runner, will provide the most DPS, and probably will be the easiest for the hostile to kill. That would make him constantly primary. Five Battlecruisers, however, would probably kill the target faster then he could kill one of your ships, particularly if you all have ECM drones. Plus, one of you wouldn't stand out as an obvious primary, thus each of you would lose ships at a relatively equal pace preventing Pilot 4 from burning out.

Upon reconsideration I agree with Delnas, scrap my original post.

Thanks for the long and detailed reply :). Either way were still a little while from having mass PVP funz, but another month or two of grinding with the barges and exhumers won't be to bad.

No problem. If you need anymore help drop by the chat channel EVP. We are a PvP corporation with an extensive amount of low sec experience that just recently relocated to 0.0. Our members will help you out if you have any questions regarding setting up your ships or piracy in general. We also know of some great places for a new pirate to go to test the water.

I would try five spider-tanked battlecruisers. Everybody fit a buffer tank, nobody fit an armor repairer, everybody fit a remote armor repairer. Target one another (be sure you have the Targeting skill trained up so you can lock more than 4 targets!) and when one of you starts taking damage on armor, the others repair him. I don't know Gallente ships well but I'd say go with brutixes, as the sentry guns will surely pop the drones deployed by any myrm. |

Edited by: mama guru on 06/05/2008 11:15:24 Pilot 1 should train for a dictor, and pilot 4 for a raiper.
Anyways: Hit and run, high dps.
1: Rail Taranis or an Ares(but he better try and stay alive). 2: Nano Ishtar 3: Nano Zealot/Vagabond/high dps Deimos(no nano fit). If neither are possible, go for another Ishtar. 4: Hurricane 5: Hurricane
What i would work for, I.E my dream gang:
1x Sabre 1x Nano Ishtar 1x Curse 1x Raiper (can tackle and scout, suprise someone in a belt) 1x Nano Scimitar.
If another pilot comes along add either a Vagabond or another Ishtar in that second gang.
EDIT: i might add that all of the above is for 0.0 roaming. |

Get the scout/prober to retain for a falcon.
Fit for range with a mix of racials,
Jamm @ 200km
4 Brutix + falcon >> 7 Brutix |

And the fact a falcon can scout and probe very nicely
For a cheaper gang that can still have a lot of success
1 covert ops 4 thorax
3 heavy ion II 2 heavy electron II mwd web scram 800mm 3 mfs II 1 dc II ECM drones
Or if you have absolutely, gigantic, huge *********
1 covert ops 1 Vexor with a tank fit
4 light neutron II mwd web scram 2 eanm II 1 dc II 1600mm
3 Vexors with gank fit
2 Heavy neutron II 1 large smartbomb (offlined ) 2 heavy ion II mwd web scram 3 mfs II 1 dc II
Purpose of the smartbomb is to overload, each vexor will be doing over 700 dps
