Just an idea I had regarding the hunting of pirates in lo sec. I haven't seen this mentioned in the recent pages off threads, but sorry if this is a repost.
The general impression that I had from the forums is that allot of people would like to see an improvement in this aspect of the game.
What I suggest is that there be no sec status lost for aggression / destruction for acts against anyone with a sec status of -5 or less.
Opinions?

Eve is a harsh place, so why should people get punished for shooting career criminals.
Though this could get unbalanced, I would agree if this would only go for people who have a sec status of 1.0 or higher (or enter your own number). Could work in favor of RP, faction warfare and such. You could even get extra bonuses from CONCORD for that.
Just my thoughts.

In general a good idea... but there is already something in place to regulate that, which is simply not working: the bounty system As long as it is not guarateed that a bounty is received by a (trustworthy) bountyhunter, but instead by any pirate friend or alt noone will pay larger bounties for the more anoying pirates. Currently a bounty is more like a medal or trophy that shows how cool they are and that is definetly against the intention of the bounty system. Therefore I would recommend that you are a legal bountyhunter if you have a sec. standing of 5.0++ and that you can then hunt pirates with sec. standing of -1.0-- without any security loss or even aggression countdown. That would be the correct solution of this problem. Eve G. |

It's a good thing people with sec status of -5 or below aren't outlaws and can't be shot by anyone at any time without consequences or anything. Owait....

Maybe you could further increase the strength of your idea by the addition of a 'pirate hunter' toggle.
A player with sec above x could toggle this on to be able to shoot at -5 or below pirates (your idea) but on the downside would be be able to be shot by said pirates. They should go pink on the overview when this is enabled. Self Destruct & LogOffs |

You guys realize that everyone can shoot at any player that goes to -5 or below. This is why that when you see them they blink red because you can shoot them.
There is no need for any new mechanic because this already exists in the current framework.
My previous post and the post right before mine were both meant to be sarcastic.

Pirates get around the bounty system by being podkilled by alts/buddies. And anyone with a -2 should be shot at every now and then(even in some hisec), without the enforcers losing sec or creating killrights...
A proper bounty hunter system needs to be implemented, more ideas please, and less sarcasm. |

Edited by: Reggie Stoneloader on 06/05/2008 19:11:06 Sarcasm is called for here. If I started a thread asking that we be given a way to jettison cargo into space, instead of having to dock and unload it, or wishing that there was a way to have autopilot avoid low-sec systems, then it would be entirely fitting to respond sarcastically.

This is the case currently. No need to suggest it.
More constructively, I'd like to see sec status totally revamped. See my sig for details. |

"Pirates get around the bounty system by being podkilled by alts/buddies."
A real pirate wants to keep the bounty on his head. Also a real pirate wouldn't want to have to post a lossmail for his/her pod.
[TrollMode] Further more, the OP said that "hunting pirates in low sec" is an "aspect of the game that people want improved". Being a low-sec pirate myself I have a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that I am reduced to a mere game mechanic...a buggy mechanic that the OP feels needs improvement. Yipee [/TrollMode]
Seriously though, the way to "improve this mechanic" is to do the following:
A. Undock B. Go to low sec C. Find blinky reds (pirates) D. Gank them E. Take their mods
You get no sec hits, no criminal flag. You get a nice juicy kill and probably some decent mods.
If you just want to make ISK though, stay in hi sec and run missions. But I assure you, PvP is a lot more fun regardless of which side of the yarr you happen to be on.

im not sure if this is another stupid thread where theres a hidden joke *not funny been done to death, resurrected, killed, rinse and repeat 100 times more*, but il bite and be the 2nd person here to let you know:
You dont lose sec status for killing a blinky, -5 or less sec status player. I wont go further more into it or it might confuse some.
Anti pirates get enough cowardly advantages as it is. |
