I'm moving up from my Drake to a Raven for level 4s. I really liked my Drake. If I could fit Cruise missiles on it, I'd probably stay with it.
But anyway, The fitting my corp is recommending is the typical active tank. I'm just curious if passive tanking a raven is viable for level 4 missions? I've discussed this a bit and the argument I'm getting is that even though the passive tank looks reasonable on paper, the signature radius of the raven is too big to make it work. So, is active tank the only way to go? I don't mind it, I just hate having to lug a cargo full of cap booster 800s everywhere. |

Dunno man. I never passived a raven, but rule of tumb is use the ship bonus. You passive your drake because it has resistance bonus, raven has not so just tank it normal and use damage mods. |

IIRC, you can passive-tank a raven to be nearly as good as the standard active tank, but you'll need to use all your mid/low/rig slots to do it.
The raven has a really good capacitor - use it!
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

Edited by: AnKahn on 06/05/2008 16:15:36 The standard responses (backed up by my experiance flying both the Raven and Drake almost exclusively) are;
1) For passive shield tanking to work for a BS you need an oversized module which does not exist, the XLSE II. The LSE II on a BC is the "oversized" module which makes the magic.
2) You can do crazy stuff to make your Raven XLSB II perma run, or faction fit a SB to allow it to perma run and you can get a similar to flying a Drake experiance.
3) You drag around a bunch of cap boosters in a slighly higher DPS Raven than #2 and pulse the booster and cap boost when you WTFOMG aggroed a room and need to survive long enough to warp out or pop a few BS to get the incoming DPS down. However in that situation you should be popping frigs in case they are scraming you and yes, you should have been aligned already.
4) or you always use the Mission Survival Guide, scout missions you are unfamiliar with in your trusty Drake and fly back to your hangar and whip out your Raven if the mission allows you to snipe groups from 100KM. NEVER use a jump gate with the Raven if you don't know what's on the other side and in that case go back and get your Drake. As you know the missions better (there are really not that many) you fly the Raven more and the Drake less.

passive tanks don't work nearly as well on bs then they do on cruisers or bcs. the reason is simply that you start out with quite a lot of shields and a horribly slow recharge of those, so you won't get that as low as the bcs recharge time while not having much bigger shields as (what has been mentioned already) there are no xl shield extenders.
