I have lost two expensive ships in two days running kill missions. The game seems to lock up and the sound repeats over and over like a broken record. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

turn graphics card settings to lowest, switch to classic client if your using premium, turn all game sound off, turn all game effects off. if that doesent solve your problem get a better comp
Quote: Shooting the hostage does usually remove a critical bargaining chip of the hostage takers
I don't think it mattered at that point, we were already bargaining with missile launchers |

first make sure your pc isnt running hot. clean it. remove all the dust from all the fans. because whatever it is, its easy and cheap to rule out overheating.
another thing that commonly gives the soundloop death could be a weak psu. |

Lost two BC's on same mission, exact same problem. Game went back on as soon as my ship blew up.
I bit the bullet and increased my RAM to 2GB (from 512, which is inadequate).
I then bought a GEForce 8400 videocard from Newegg for about $35, and can now play premium client for the first time.
A huge amount of time wasted getting the Isk to buy, outfit, and rig a ship just to get blown up because my computer was inadequate. This finally made me take the plunge.
I don't know if this will help, but my lag disappeared and my PC is lightning fast now with the upgrade. Good luck!! |

If there are lots of NPCs, turn the auto-targeting offline, it may help. |

Edited by: Terrible Teddy on 07/05/2008 00:57:21 My computer- Intel« CoreÖ2 Extreme QX6850 liquid cooled (runs cool as a cucumber) 4GB Corsair Dominator RAM OC'd to 1066 88000 GT SLI Brand new, factory fresh and clean
1. I do not think my hardware is a source of concern 2. This only seems to happen when running missions 3. The computer is rock solid on all other games / applications
Any ideas regarding drivers, or in-game settings? |

As you've already stated your graphics and ram are adequate, I would check your soundcard/drivers.
Could be locking up the client whenever a certain mission music track is being cue'ed(or possibly a corrupted music track.....try playing all of the music tracks in the in-game jukebox and see if any of them lock up your client).
also, try tuning down the ram to the standard manufacturer speeds just for s/g's.
What mission were you doing when you lost the ships by chance? (just wondering what kind of a graphical load you are experiencing on warp-in) |

Are you using a sound card, and if so do you have up to date drivers for it? |

I have had the same problem causing a loss of 3 Drakes in missions. It happens when a large amount of NPC's are engaging me and at that point the game just locks on my screen. I am eventually disconnected and even when I relog the screen is black with sound until my ship is popped and then the screen is displayed again.
My computer runs on windows XP is new with up to date graphics drivers. I do not have this problem with any other online game I play. I have given up trying to run missions.

Sounds like you're running out of memory, I have that same problem at times. Some things accelerate the issue, stuff like drones. I have 2GB ram and set my swapfile to 4GB. 1 account was 570/2140MB, the other 490/1380MB.
Tried to start my 3rd account for a skillchange, comp runs out of memory and just stalls, hard reset was the only option.

Edited by: Reven Cordelle on 07/05/2008 08:33:41 You using onboard sound? Try disabling sound in EVE.
I've heard this fixes a lot of Crash-To-Desktop issues so it may help you out.
Can't be a lack of RAM with 4gb of Dominator in there, unless your RAM is running unstable due to your overclocking.
Edit - Did mention CPU Overtemping, then read you have it watercooled. Watercooling FTW.
Only thing I can think of is Onboard Sound cackyness. If you don't have onboard, then maybe a fresh client install?
