If your drones are set to "Aggressive" (auto-attack anything that attacks you), focus fire makes them all shoot one enemy at a time. |

When you launch your drones into space, they appear under the header "Drones In Local Space". (You may need to expand the Drone interface, if you don't see this).
Right click the label "Drones In Local Space" and select Attack.
All the drones you deployed will then attack the same target. You will not need to task each drone individually.
If you start organising your drones in your dronebay (also through the drone interface), you'll have a few more labels to choose from, when deploying, but it's essentially the same. _______ Break your chains! Kinda'Shujaa is just the first step. |

When running a mission, drones can be set loose and will generally go for the next nearest target when their current target pops. If there are a number of targets nearby, this can result in drones splitting up and going for multiple targets (usually not optimal).
The Focus Fire command tries to keep them together on one target at a time. It usually works quite well, but sometimes they still split up and have to be redirected.
Letting the drones select their own targets can be quite handy as while you're dealing the major damage to the BS, the drones can work on the frigates that are getting in close. I still like to keep a bit of an eye on the drones and always have the option to redirect them to a priority target if I need to (scramblers, jammers, etc.). Once the dangerous frigs are dealt with, the drones can clean up for me, without my intervention. Focus fire means 1 or 2 dead frigates, rather than 5 half dead ones still hitting for their full damage.

this, but there is still the rare bug of them shooting different targets still..., to solve that (until ccp does), just order them to attack a target and they should keep focusing fire until the bug happens again. -sig-

There are no bugs in Eve Online.

There is one anomaly here! If you return any damaged drones to your drone bay and launch fresh drones to replace them. The newly launched drones will select their own target, you have to re-issue the 'Engage Target' command to get the drones focusing fire on one target at a time!

Edited by: Bleeshtar on 13/05/2008 10:48:59 While on the topic a few noob questions regarding drones.
* How can you check on their 'health'?
* How do you get them repaired ? (I have never noticed a drone mentioned in the repair all list)
It seems I always return with them at full 'health' or they dont return at all

If you click on (expand) 'Drones in space' at the bottom of your overview, you will see the shield and armor damage drones are receiving. When I return them to my bay I move them to a 'damaged' folder, so I do not re-launch them. When docked back in a station, if you repair your ship, it will show up the repair bill for damaged drones and modules!, just select repair all!

When you deploy your drones, open your drone window and expand the "drones in space" section. You will see your drones along with three bars (shield, armor, hull) You can also lock on a drone and see its three bars.

You can repair them using repair drones (shields, armor), or remote reppers (shields, armor, hull). You can also repair them at station (if the station is equipped with a repair facility).
Note that the drone shields recharge just like a normal shields do.
To repair in space (either with repair drones or with a remote repper) you need to lock on your drone. Note that there are no hull repair drones.
They key to saving your drones is to manage aggro. When you warp in a mission, make your ship "obtain aggro" on the rats by shooting at them. Once all the rats (or the ones that matter) are flashing red, then you deploy your drones.
In some missions, the rats can change target though.
Some rats are "triggered" by getting into range. If you first want to focus on one group of rats and get aggro, your drones may accidentally obtain aggro on another group by getting into the mission-set range (varies by mission).

On the subject of aggressive drones, does anyone know if there's any logic to how they pick their taregts? I'm sure I've seen them ignore cruisers and go after frigates even if they're a little further away - not that I'm complaining, as this is exactly what I'd like them to do...

I've noticed that light scouts will target smaller rats first and move on up.
Quite useful when your BS is surrounded by lots of frig rats... let the light scouts out and let them take care of the small rats... ----------- MOP recruiting Industrialists/miners/traders/missioners/etc |
