After playing my trial account for 2 days i though "great, i have finally found a game worth playing!" so i happily payed my $19.95 US and upgraded my membership, oh how excited i was at the prospect of new ships, skills and areas to explore. But then it happened. Lag, disconnects and not even being able to load my characters or connect to the server, funny...5 minutes ago when i had a trial account i was experiencing none of this, for the last 2 and a half days in fact the game has run without a hitch. As soon as i hand over money the game falls apart, needless to say i am disappointed. I have read the forums and followed all the suggestions on what to do in this situation. The thing that confuses me is whilst on a trial account the game ran perfectly for 2 and a half days, as soon as i become a member BAM! everything falls apart. $20 down the toilet i guess, just got a question for you CCP are you guys related to any Nigerian princes..because its a nice little scam you have going.

For the lag to have been THAT bad there must be more going on than just switching from trial to full member.
Where you in Jita when you switched?
Where you somehow in some 100+ man fleet fight
If none of those then theres something busted somewhere, either your net connection (does you ISP prioraties gameing traffic?) or your PC/settings, and its not CCP/EVE servers.

Edited by: scramb13r on 09/05/2008 17:12:56 Edited by: scramb13r on 09/05/2008 17:11:34 i know for a fact my isp doesn't because i got a mate who works for them. i don't see how it can be settings. I have set up my firewall correctly and also set up port forwarding on my router. The thing that gets me is within the space of about 15 minutes, the game went from playing perfectly on a trial account to lagging/disconnects/not being able to connect at all on a member account. I'm just new so i was in newbie space and there weren't many other ships around and I'm not in a 100 ship fleet loll. Just logged on this morning and still getting a lot of lag so far no disconnects. The only other thing i can think of its a "time of day" thing, in which case i found the line in the sandbox where it goes from good to horribly bad.
P.S my isp is one of the best in my country. They do not throttle gaming on downloads in fact they are one of the only isps i know who put a priority on it, as the founder of the company was into gaming and p2p downloads :)
i have a 8mb/1mb connection im running the classic version of the game of which my computer is more than able to handle all of my firewalls are ported to allow this game to basically do whatever it wants
the thing that gets me is for 2 days on a trial account i played at the same times without a problem, soon as i hand over some money it goes down hill. maybe CCP are capping members and not capping trial members in order to get people into the game.

ok, i have discovered what the problem is. After about 1pm GMT +12 i start getting constant disconnects every few minutes, huge lag spikes or i cant log in at all. Could i get someone from CCp to respond to this post please because I'm at a complete loss.
Things i have done...
Port Fowarding Disabled Virus Scanner/Firewall Opened Ports on my Firewall Reformatted HD Trace Route - shows its server side Tried almost everthing in tech support/tech forums that you recommend to do.
to be honest im pretty ****ed off, i just left World of Warcraft thinking no one could be worse than Blizzard Entertainment. Seems i was wrong, so far you guys (CCP) make blizzard look good!

Have you tried making a petition? You can do it without logging into the game. Just under the support part of the navigation on the left, there's a 'my petitions' link. There you should be able to file a petition. Make sure you detail what you were doing when you got dropped (or like you say, it happens at different points), your hardware config and DXDiag and that sort of thing.
They'll send you an email response.
Additionally, you say your computer can 'more than handle' the classic client. If it can handle the premium client by any chance, could you give that a whirl and see if its client specific? ================

For example:
1) Go to www.speedtest.net and run it using your LOCAL speedtest station. Note down your average ping, download and upload rate.
2) Starting with your local node, work your way towards London and repeat step (1) writing down your average ping, download and upload rate at each location.
3) Run the test for the London server (where the EVE servers are based) and record the same details.
4) Finally repeat tests (1) to (3) at different times of day to find out where any potential bottlenecks are on the internet due to peak local usage. If the problems are at specific times of day it may be a bottleneck somewhere due to peak local usage.
OUTCOME:
If you can max out your download and upload rates for all locations between yourself and london then the problem is more likely to be EVE, than the internet or your ISP.
If you get rubbish rates for most locations outside your immediate area then its likely a problem with your ISP or PC / Modem.
On the other hand if you happen to get rubbish results for some specific locations (including London), then stop blaming EVE - its probably due to internet routing / lag - which CCP have no control over.
I doubt very much CCP have gone to the trouble of coding their MMORPG to deliberately limit bandwidth to active subscribers........
Have you considered other possibilities - such as moving away a significant number of systems to see if its just due to peak user limits on the server you are currently on? Remember although EVE is a single server 'shard' - its actually make up of lots of linked servers, each server dealing with a different set of solar systems.
Sometimes I cant log into the game because the area I am in is busy and the server for that constellation is at capacity for logged in users. Same is true if there is lots of PVP / Fleet battles in the same area - and the game starts to lag badly. However if I log in as my alt who is in another constellation then I dont have login problems, and dont have any lag.
NOTE: Just because your current system looks clear doesnt mean that the neighbouring system hosted on the same server doesnt have a 200 ship fleet battle waging!
Also note - If you are a Caldari character or just missioning in Caldari space then for goodness sakes move away from Jita. Its a known trade hotspot (largest trade hub in the game), and notorious for its lag inducing disconnects / gate traffic.

This is a constant problem for any online game, and alot of the time it's not the server that's experiencing problems nor the ISP of the connecting client. Bottlenecks can form anywhere on the internet, and how often you run into them while playing EVE (or any other game for that matter) seems to roughly depend on the physical distance between your ISP and the game servers, as well as what nodes your ISP is using to connect to certain areas of the world and so forth.
And yea, doing alot (not just 1 or 2) traceroutes to the game server will help determine the source of the problem.

try also running the premium client, as mentioned already, with the premium content turned off. that client works better than the classic content client.

If CCP were capping active members, don't you think a 'few' of the current active members would have complained?
30,000 people log into this game every day, and I don't see 75% of them complaining of permanent lag after 1pm, do you?
I would think, as the problem only seems to occur between specific times, your ISP is shaping /limiting traffic, no matter what you believe. Either that or something else between you and CPP is.

Edited by: scramb13r on 15/05/2008 06:49:08 hah, take a ******* joke. i was merely stating the fact it seemed humorous to me that whilst on a trial account i had no problems and it wasn't until i switched over to a member account that i started having lag spike and disconnects.
but you know what i 100% absolutely believe without a doubt im sure its a fact that CCP is capping member accounts and not trial accounts, zomg yes that must be it! QQ.
btw thanks to all the people who said it was the ISP after i clearly stated it wasnt, you know what you must be right, you must know my ISP better than i do considering i have been with them for 6 years and used to work for them. What would i know right?

this is the most logical answer so far! thank you for the advice. after the last few days and after everything i tried this was my conclusion as well, i just thought it was funny that i had no problems on a trial account. normally i wouldnt post in forums because most people are idiots and have no clue and just blame the ISP WHEN ITS NOT THE ISP!!!!! but it made me laugh when 15 minutes after handing over money i started getting disconnects and lag spikes. but it looks like im going to have to put up with it thank god eve isnt a grind game. ah well

While not impressed with your method of bringing this to our attention I will try to get some answers for you.
If you could run pingplotter (there is a free trial version) and try to connect to 87.237.38.200 and record the results. It is really important if you can get this log while these disconnects are occuring, a trace while things are going fine is also good.
We have our server farm multihomed to 3 different back-bone sections of the internet to try to provide a good experience for all our players. Sometimes we do get issues with the way this interact.
So any information you ca provide will help us track this down.
Additionally there is a chance that this has been caused by you going into the 'trouble spots' in EVE (these are heavily used systems that because of the amount of players there suffer from lag and other play issues). Places to watch out for are ... Jita, Motsu, Salia and Amarr.
Hope this helps.

While not impressed with the response time, service or feedback you gave me i cannot be bothered wasting more time on this, ill play when i can. I guess i will just have to live with this problem. Thank you for making me realize blizzard entertainment inc are not as bad as i thought they were. But what do you care right? so long as I'm paying the monthly fee.

I had disconnecting problems about year ago and nobody didn't manage to see why ( players , GMs ... ) . I run every program and I send all logs and everybody were trying best to help me but nobody knew what problem is . I was online for 10-15 min then got disconnected , sometimes I didn't manage to be online for two minutes .
How I solved it ? Hehe .
Well I have DSL and I had LAN drivers that are about two weeks older then the newest one . When I installed new drivers for LAN EvE now works for me like a charm without any hitch ( expect big fleet battle lag )
