I am sure most of you have noticed the added FlashVideo options added to EVE-Files recently.
So now I was just looking for some feedback on the feature. Does it help you/add something extra in your decision to download the full video or not?
Is the feature a good addition or do you not care about it either way there or not? Do you preview the movie before downloading and in such case chose not to get the full movie based upon the preview?
Is the quality/size enough for a preview or would you suggest it be altered in any other way?
Or does it simply suck and should be removed? Are you missing something?

I think it's fine, I usually watch it for a couple of minutes to see if I would like it, so pretty useful + its shiny __________________________________ Vids about me raping peeps in my trusty battle boat

Yeah, i think its nice. Better quality would be nice, but then again im not sure if its necessary. It does NOT suck and should NOT be removed in my opinion ;)

Fine? Nice? Dude its an awesome feature . Saw it yesterday and was very impressed, will help a lot in deciding if a video is worth downloading. Should spare you a bit bandwidth wise I would imagine .

Honestly, I've never watched the preview. These movie files are so friggin big when people don't use H64 that I can't watch a movie stream without it constantly buffering, so I just download and watch them locally.
Do you compress them to mkv or flv for that preview or is it the full-size file? If it's compressed and not likely to buffer, I'd probably start previewing first.

Does it help you/add something extra in your decision to download the full video or not? Absolutely.
Is the feature a good addition or do you not care about it either way there or not? Very good addition.
Do you preview the movie before downloading and in such case chose not to get the full movie based upon the preview? I have done...3 out of 5 times I'd say.
Is the quality/size enough for a preview or would you suggest it be altered in any other way? Its fine I'd say, easy to see what the film is about and from there whether its something I'd download or not.
Or does it simply suck and should be removed? NO!
Are you missing something? Marks out of ten?

AK.

Yep, I've used it solely for this reason.

They are compressed to FLV @ 320x240.

I love it, but one suggestion is to perhaps have the preview window larger, but at the same time limit it to like the first 3-5 minutes of the video. I had trouble seeing what was going on when previewing a video and thus wasn't really sure until I fully downloaded the file whether it was going to be something I'd enjoy.
But all in all, it is a great initiative for eve-files and definitely a step in the right direction.
Much love <3

I've used it a few times, and it's a nice feature. Would request a larger window with a bit higher resolution as mentioned earlier in the thread.
On another note - I've had problems lately with downloads stopping and the resume function does not seem to work anymore. Is that a feature you have disabled on eve-files lately or a problem in my end?

Will look into the resume stuff but nothing has been changed (afaik) to resume so it should still support that - unless one of the external mirrors suddenly made some changes I am not aware of.
Will also look into increasing the resolution but maybe only limit it to the first 2-3 minutes and/or cut out like 2-3 min in the middle.

I always skip the preview because lately I've been getting insanely fast speeds from EVE-Files (~2mb/s) so I might as well just wait like 5 minutes and watch the full thing.
It's a handy feature though I'm sure, but seeing as speeds have been so great lately I don't really take advantage of it. :p ___________________

One thing that would be nice is if you could add the stats. IE length bitrate and resolutuion info ont he preview page.
The preview is great to see what sorta movie it is. But i find i can never watch the really small vids where i cant see a thing thats happening.
And tbh, nooen seems to post the vitals of the vids anymore.

To be honest I do not like the feature. Sure it is nice to preview, but it is too low quality to see what is happening. So far 100% of the time I've watched the preview for 10 seconds and then thought "wtf am I doing, just wait 30-40 minutes and I'll see the real thing and know wtf is going on"
Screencaps of a movie would be far better imo. Or a sample like 30-45 seconds of the movie in full resolution.
Love teh eve-files.

How about adding a nice browsing interface for that mess of a site and fix your ftp in such a way that 90% of the downloads don't screw up? how's that for a feedback?
PS: I am new to the website so maybe i am doing something wrong but then again a successful website must be friendly to new users..so something still is wrong there. "Look at that ship ... is it broken? why so much smoke?!" |

my problem is that every movie i try to download doesn't work :( on Mozilla it says "Starting..." and it's just stuck in that phase and in IE it starts downloading but it gets stuck fast.
Some of the 2008 files seem to work fine but the ones i tried are from 2006, are those not available anymore? if so then why do they still show up on the website? :-S -- "Look at that ship ... is it broken? why so much smoke?!" |

Edited by: LadyShu on 14/05/2008 12:36:58 maybe just screw your preview and use the evetube.com flv files (you can embed the player to other sites). I can add a xml interface to check if a flv is available for a evefiles video, and maybe on the other side you may add a rss feed for new videos, so that i can automatical download and add the files to evetube?
contact me at kern [at] clavain.co.uk if you are interested chribba.

Its a nice feature, i make some jumps on the video to confirm its not a fake or something stupid, but in my opinion the quality is not enough to decide if you like it or if the video has good quality.
