Hi, I'm just beginning my mining career and i'm trying to understand what is more profitable: atm I can fly up till the hulk, but i'm in no corp so for now no access to 0.0.
My doubt is about mining Ice or Ore in high sec. space. I read some old posts about that but as prices are changing very fast etc. i'm looking for some good ints.

Ore no doubt. but problem can be that you cant find big enough rocks, but if you can, then Ore is still way better.

Ice mining is pitiful ISK/hour by comparison. |

Step 1: Linkage join a corp as this is a multiplayer game.
Step 2: Run missions until you get a NPC Corp standing of 6.67 so you don't waste any of your ore in station taxes.
Step 3: PvP once a week in a frigate. Be prepared to lose it, I swear it will be ok. In game experience is extremely valuable and closes the SP gap far quicker than you might imagine.
Step 4: Ask yourself what do you really need isk for? If you are having fun flying frigates then you don't millions of isk. You don't need the best of the best to have fun and be productive in Eve, hell a 1 million SP pilot with some basic Electronic Warfare skills is an asset to any small to medium gang.
Step 5: Have fun, this game is not entirely about profit and how much you make per hour. This is a game not a job, when you forget that you have already done something wrong.

ice mining is the AFK miners vocation. as such, it has a lot of people doing it, and ice prices are very low. ice almost never runs out as well. it takes usually aobut 5 mins to extract a block, and theres like 100 blocks per roid in an ice belt.
pretty much the only way you can turn a profit in ice mining is if you have maxed skills and a mackinaw.

Edited by: Aesynil on 11/05/2008 03:06:19 Let me correct that last post. Ice NEVER runs out, as far as I know. I've taken 850 blocks from a single asteroid, without even beginning to deplete it.
As far as the rest of what they said...It's pretty much right. Ore is more profitable, it's unquestionable (Well, unless if you're a lazy ore miner...). However, ore you have to keep changing targets, moving your ship, you get cycles where you get only partial yield due to an asteroid popping unless you watch it carefully...It can take more attention, in short. Ice, on the other hand....Longer cycle time, and never have to move. Ever. Less profit, less work.
It all works out in the end. The Unit pursues invention, manufacturing, mining, and research. Evemail us if you need anything related to Science and Industry. |

if you scan the ice roids you'll see they do have a finite limit ;)
seems i left a factor of 10 out of my original post though.

They have a limit, but 80.000 uptill 200.000 units per astroid. 250 km of roids avarage of 40 macs per ice belt, you do the math.
My guess is that I finish all current skills to lvl 5 then I see an ice belt dissapear.
Back on topic: Veldspar (tritanium) is the most isk per hour in high sec.

I would just like to add that Kernite is an even better source of mexallon. And as it is found in High Sec Amarr space. :

Umm not everyone wants to pvp, and for a lot of people the fun comes from maximising the ISK per hour and getting space rich.
That's what makes Eve so cool, there's the mindless shooting of others for you Neanderthals, and there's also the building of a profitable mini space empire for those of us of a higher enlightenment. ----------------- Think of someone you consider of average intelligence... now realise this. yep PVP is what we industrialists and miners earn profit on......if they were not blowing each other up, we wouldn't be making lots of ISK from the trade markets....:) ************************************************** Maker of the finest Scottish drones and ammo...all combined with Active Peat Camouflage (tm) -- so dark, you won't see them coming!! |

Run the numbers. Go to the market, figure out what you think you can sell for, and then run the numbers on each ore and ice type you have available to you, and figure ISK/hour from there.
This Page will help you do that, as will this one, though I'm not sure if it does ice.
Also remember that it's a lot easier to haul the products from higher end ores, Veld produces a lot of bulky trit, but that's why it's valuable: Trit is high right now. -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |
