I just got the game and I just finished the first line of story missions. So...now what lol? Do I just run missions and stuff and get bigger and better ships and such, or are there more story missions here and there. Anyway, I really like the game so far.

Just wait until you find a good pirate/PVP corp to go killing stuff with. Which is what i would recommend, it's much more fun then that PVE crap. However for making isk i would just keep start doing level 1 missions _______________

Edited by: Jecob on 10/05/2008 15:21:24 You can see the level by looking at the Agent in the station or in your People & Places and train Social and Connections for mission running that will help you open up higher level missions sooner.

Hey O Monis and welcome to EVE I hope you find things to your liking.
Well first off EVE is crazy deep and what I suggest is really to start reading the stickies. Within a lot of those there are links to many good resources.
Here are a few pointers that should help you get started.
- Attributes are your friends. They are what determine how long a skill takes to train. When you look at a skills attributes it will tell you the primary and secondary attributes that will affect the train time. Also while in here you can check what skills are perquisites.
- Learning skills will increase attributes by 1 point per level and once you get level 4 in the basic skill it will open up the advanced skill for the same attribute. Training these are beneficial, but one of the main points against training these early is that they can hinder enjoyment of the game due to not learing skills that directly show in game. So train learning skill to level 3 quick and switch to level 4 while offline. This will allow you train other skills while in game.
- Skills to concentrate on that will benefit all ships are called support skills. Electronics, Engineering, Navigation, and Mechanic, are 5 skills you want to get to level 5 ASAP. The following you want to get to level 4 soon, Engineering Upgrade, Hull Upgrades, the tanking specific skills in the Mechanic tree (armor tanking) & Engineering tree (shield tanking). Gallente tend to armor tank so the engineering shield tanking skills are not initially necessary. With in the navigation tree it is hard to train something that is not beneficial, read the descriptions and make a decision.
- Gunnery skills are also pretty self-explanatory. Since you area Gallente and use hybrid weapons you will want to train the engineering skills that increase you capacitor levels and recharge rates. Also, some of the navigation skills will also reduce amount of cap per warp, which can be useful in PvP when you come out of warp right into the thick of battle.
Well I need to get back to work. I hope this is understandable and gives you something to ponder upon.

EVE does not hold your hand with a set path to follow. Pick your own. I would -highly- recommend getting into a good corp.

If you pick a Non-Player Corporation to do missions for - you can do a show info on them (little blue button) or their symbol in one of their agent's show info's. There is an Agents Tab that will show the different categories of agents and those of them which are Available To You.
If you do sixteen missions for an agent you'll get a Story Line Mission which helps with your standings more than the others and is a bit better paying.
Train up your Social/Negotiation Skill and you will get more money for the same mission. Social/Connections helps your Standing with Friendly Agents giving you better access to them.
As mentioned, each Agent gives out a certain level of missions, each level gets harder so you need better ships to do them.
Level I - Frigate, Destroyer Level II - Destroyer, Cruiser Level III - Battle Cruiser Level IV - Battleship
For Level I missions - what you want to do is to Kite your opponents so they don't swarm you. Get a Level III Frigate, put some long range guns on it and an afterburner then aggro the NPC Pirates one little group at a time. Approach a group from one side, away from the other groups, and when they start blinking yellow as they target you pull away and let them chase you.
Letting them chase you cuts down the angle at which those long range guns have to track them. If they are close and orbiting the angle changes rapidly and the longer range guns have trouble tracking. Kill them as they come up, then aggro the next little clump of them. Use your Afterburners to control the distance of the engagement but watch your Capacitor. If you start getting into trouble - warp out before your capacitor gets to low to do it - repair and return to the fight.
Mechanic, Engineering, Electronics and Navigation are your support skills. Look at each skill in these categories and see what they do. While such as Missiles and Gunnery will help you kill - the support skills will help keep you alive.
To be able to do new things you need to learn skills.
Each Skill you train has a Primary and Secondary attribute. Do a show info on them and you will see what they are. The stronger your attributes are matching the skill's attributes the faster you will learn the skill.
There are several criteria for which skills to train first.
1) Those you need to make some money (to buy among other things more skills) 2) Those that will speed up your ability to learn other skills (The Learning Skills) by increasing your attributes. 3) Those of the Learning Skills that will help you to learn the other learning skills faster. 4) Skills which fit into the time you have. Learn short term skills while on-line but set a longer skill before you logout so it won't won't run out during the middle of the night.
Ideally, the fastest way to speed up your training, is to train your Rank 1 Learning Skills for Memory and Intelligence first up to Level IV, then if you've got money train your Rank 3 Learning Skills for Memory and Intelligence to level 4. Then train all the rest of your Rank 1 and Rank 3 learning skills. The Ranks here are an indication of how long the skills take to train. Rank 2 is twice as long as Rank 1. In practice, because of criteria 4 above ... you often don't take the quickest path - unless you want to like set your alarm and wake up in the middle of the night to start a new skill.
Also a factor is the cost of the skills. The Rank 3 Learning Skills cost 4.5 mil. ea.
Don't just start out training your Learning Skills immediately though. Get your other skills up to the point where you can make some money. Specifically - Level III of your Faction Frigate. The faster you get yourself into a Level III Frigate the easier your life as a beginner will be.
The sooner you get those learning skills done - the easier the rest of your life in EVE will be.
