i've got about 12m sp, minmatar battleship to V, 5.5m in gunnery and got some basic drone skils.
i fly tempest at the mo, but after reading through the forums it seems to be a bit below par compared to the other BS's, was thinking of training to either a typhoon or abandoning mini completly and training for a raven/megathron/some amar battleship, any advice?

o/ I would suggest to stick to one race and maby later to other races. Always start with the learning skills, good for allways. Try to train some tanking skills, and some enginering skills. Not only good for matari but good for later and other races to. It just lets you live longer with cap and resistance. For a typhoon, its a big skill investment. Drones, guns and cruise missiles. A nano phoon is deadly! A tempest is the sniper ship here. A mealstrom is a big expensive tank to my idea, sure others have other minds on that Good luck and fly safe!

o/ im just like you i have almost 12m sp,bs V and 3 mil in gunnery...and now i train for a raven...because it doesnt require so many sp to do lvl 4 easyly and thus making ISK faster...but u should use ur tempest for pvp(u have bs V).Also u could try smaller ships like HAC or combat Recon ships they are nice to have in a gang. Good luck to you...as i recall i think i saw in minmatar space ... somewhere:)

It is true that you need many skill points in many areas to be completely capable flying Minmatar.
Also because of this you end up being able to fly most other races with little trouble, this is best seen verse Caldari ships.
If you want to cross train I would say go Caldari, if you are an npcer, nothing beats a raven, having good missile skils also mean you can fly the typhoon and other Minmatar ships more effectively.

I think you should base your desire to change due to tempest being 'sub par' on your own experience, rather than the forums. There is very few comparative information on these forums that are actually accurate. How effective or powerful any ship is vs any other is completely relative to player skill and luck, and most people who actually post whines on these forums tend to have bad in both. _______________________________________________ Minmatar will always go faster than you, get over it. |

The Typhoon is a beast, but you need at least twice your SP to exploit its full potential.

Did you have a look at the Maelstroom ? With not maxed out skills it out perfoms the tempest easily and is fitting and skill wise more similar to the tempest than the raven (for the raven you ll need to skill up missles a lot).
You will not be happy with the Typhoon as a lot of people already mentioned, the Typhoons "versality" only shines if you're skills in all three supported weapon systems, projectiles, drones and missles are on par and say to 4 at least including the support skills.

I'm training for the Typhoon atm. But as others point out, you need a lot of SP to make it effective.
What you could do (for PVE) is to train for a raven, max out on cruise missile skills (read; get em real good), then get T2 heavies, then go back to typhoon.

From BS and up (i.e. cap ships), Minmatar are, overall, mediocre at best at the moment. Minmatar shine at the destroyer/cruiser/bc level, both tech 1 and 2.
If you really love flying Battleships, you can do better elsewhere. If you stick with Minmatar, take advantage of the fabulous T2 frigs, destroyers, cruisers and bc's. (And train an Amarr cap alt.)

Like me...
11 million SP in drones. 19 million sp in gunnery. 8 million sp in missiles(and rising).

Captain Dimitri,
The Tempest is an amazing ship, the Fleet Tempest is a real beast.
As already stated cross train to Caldari for the Raven and keep the Pests/Maelstrom for PVP, though the Maelstrom does well in L4 missions.

autocannon tempest is sexy slightly more tank then a gang mega but not alot less dps. with decent gunnery and drone skills and bs5 you should get around 862 dps with republic fleet emp , 941 dps with hail , and 765 dps with barrage. now thats not too shabby. maelstrom get a little more dps and alot more tank. with the phoon you get a very versatile ship. heavy tacler anyone. smartbomb phoon , neut guns/torps phoon.
my honest advice is stay minny.

The phoon is the only battleship you'll ever need lol :p Except for fleet combat.
I bet you could spend 30m SP on the Typhoon alone if you tried.

as someone mentioned above. Minnies have really great ships up to battleships. Minnie BS's are great ships (don't get me wrong) but need more sp. in gunnery and everywhere else to get their full potential. You could probably deal relatively the same damage and have a better tank if you train for the Sleipnir.
Before losing hope, you should try out the Mael because it's probably the easiest ship to fly from the BS's :)

Lo there Dimitri o/
First, the poor matar BS:es are one of the most nerfed poor vessels ever :) BUT,,,
In fleet, the Tempest provides still a wicked alpha, not as good as it used to be, but still good enough to pop others.
The problem you will face is this, it is a "joke" but nevertheless true. Matar is eve in hardmode. You need a lot , lot lot lot of skills to be "good" in Matar BS¦s.
This char ( Urd) is around 35M SP and is a dedicated Minnie cap and BS pilot, I am not yet done, and still have some lvl5¦s to be able to really pilot the Phoon as it should be done. Dont let others bring you down, becouse a locked and loaded Phoon orbing you @ +2500m/s neuting and dropping torps while the OgreII are chewing in to the hull, is a scary scary thing :)
To sum up some basic skills you will need. Drones , all T2 except sentrys about 3,5 M SP Enginering, shiels and energy to 5, about 3M SP Electronics , around 1M Navigation, all to 5 and 4 about 3M Gunnery about 7M , AWU 5 is highly recomended as traj to 5 Missiles, about 3M , you will need torps and cruise to 5 for BS, heavy and standard to 5 for hac and intys/af¦s
Its just to cruise and enjoy until you get there :)
Fly safe and take care
/Urd
PS, the Poon is the most wicked BS ingame, in the right pilots hand :)
