Is it total madness to PVP with 650mm Arties on a Stabber?

Yes, because the Stabber excels at mobility - and artillery have terrible tracking.

It might not be terrible, if you can't fit T2 autos, to use 650's. The stabber is tight on grid though, so you'll be flying without a tank. Instead of orbiting, you'd also just be using "keep at range" or manually flying, so you'd want to get the best agility possible.

Arty on a Stabber isn't usually especially wise unless you've got some kind of unconventional armor tanking going, with cap rechargers in the mids. For PvE that isn't actually an unworkable fitting, but it doesn't really play to the strengths of the ship.
Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to get back to mucking about with my 1600mm plated, nano, EWar Moa.

650mm is the way to go with the Stabber, since beyond webber range, artillery has more dps than AC (even without considering alpha). Autocannons on ships without falloff bonus are best if you want the option of going into web range.

Sorry but your talking out your arse here, a stabber with any tier autocannon and barrage hits anything up to about 18km away just fine.

except artillery cant track like autocannons and you'll die in a fire to the first person who shows up that knows how to maneuvre to make the most out of their transversal velocity in relation to your arty stabber, a frig will kill an arty stabber if you dont have a web

Edited by: Toolivus on 11/05/2008 11:56:33 On sisi, arty stabbers and arty nanocanes are a whole lot of fun. With a tracking computer the tracking is surprisingly ok.
Whether they're viable on tq remains to be seen. Range, rather than speed is life (not being shot at even more so). And you're probably going to be skirting disruptor range or just not tackling altogether. Maybe a rupture will do better though, more damage but less speed where your dps is lacking and speed is a little less important seems a good tradeoff.
edit - soloing with is is silly

I can't think of any reason you'd want to use a 650 stabber over an autocannon stabber (better dmg/tank/easier fitting if you wanna fight in scram range) or a 720 rupture (can do a bit of dmg at range, has a chance to solo kill idiots in frigs)

A pair of them would triple the cost of your stabber. This is an issue for some new (and broke) pvpers.

You're paying ridiculously too much, they cost 3.5m/piece in Jita, and cost 2m/piece to build if you buy the minerals __________________________________ Vids about me raping peeps in my trusty battle boat
