it seems every common ship (even the noob ships) in eve are about what you want to do with them, more tank, more dps, more speed, all to the detriment of another atribute.
so why not with freighters?
You can do literally nothing with them but fly them from point A to B.
What do you guys think of the idea of them having 1, and just 1 low slot?
they should all immediately loose a bit of tank, agility and cargo space.
the person has a choice to boost just one of those attributes.
If you are carrying very expensive cargo, and you are worried about being ganked, put on a damage control. If you want to go faster, then inertial stabilisers, Or if you feel safe, but want to carry a lot more stuf, then you can put on a cargo expander (that's a massive loss in tank for that choice, nearly 15-20%)
Each option makes the ship a bit worse than it was before the change with the exception of one attribute. And it could make for an interesting addition of flexibility to the game.
Imagine how an over confident pilot would feel after they loose their ship cuz they put on an expanded cargo hold rather than a damage control. Or the worry of a pilot who is being escorted into nul with an iHub wondering if they should tank better or have an inertial stabiliser to move faster?
anyway, just an idea |

I'm fine with that (or maybe allow rigs instead?) as long as the stats are tweaked so that the current freighter is the same as a new style one fit for maximum cargo. |

indeed, they have to be balanced. but a lot of the time pilots dont need the full cargo space so speed would be better, or tank. so just bit of flexibility would be nice |

I think that would be an interesting addition to the game because it would then be more difficult to gank freighters in high sec, you'd have to ship scan it to know what module it had in it when setting up a gank.
So instead of "oh its an obelisk and obelisks have a max 208,000 EHP unless escorted" it would be "hmmm i wonder which module he's got fit" |

One of each slot and leave enough cpu and grid that it cant fit anything overly offensive. |

I will support this if the max cargo space of a fully cargo rigged and modded freighter stays under 1 million cubic meters. We don't want people shipping capitals into high-sec. "Just because I seem like an idiot, doesn't mean I am one." ~Unknown |

I really dont think they should have anything more than 1 low slot. It is still a freighter after all. What would you put on a high slot? and the only thing I can think you would put on the mid is an ECM? really?
the low will give: massive tank if you want it to (60% boost to tank with damage control 2)
massive boost to cargo hold (27% at loss of about 17% tank and like said above, it must be balanced to be about the same as max capacity now)
and reasonable boost to agility (which is amazingly useful trying to move things threw low/nul)
if you start playing with the other slots I think its just adding features for the sake of it. |

Low slots in particular is something freighters simply cannot be given without being heavily nerfed first.
Otherwise, they'd get too much HP or too much cargo space. They're already pushing the edge in both areas, and giving them the ability to improve those stats would require them to be a lot lower without mods in order not to break things.
In other words, they'd have to be made much worse in general if you want to be able to give them the ability to be better in a specific area. Overall, I think people would prefer to have them better overallGǪ GÇöGÇöGÇö GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥ GÇö Karath Piki-á |

Special freighter only mods
1. Warp Overdrive : 500% warp speed, -50% cargo. Before you scream bloody murder, 500% about as fast as an industrial at 4.5 AU
2. Super Inertial Stabilizer : 50% align time, --50% cargo. Align time is the only reason I just couldn't go for a freighter, would love a sub freighter with 120k m3, freighter resists+hitpoint, and doesn't have the ORCA requirements.
3. Resist Mod - Specific to armor or shields only dependent on freighter, acts a bit like a DCU but boosts the inherent weaker resists only. Freighter cannot get 60% to hull, that would increase tank by almost 50% alone.
Thats it. Freighters cannot get increased cargo size, because they are capped for a reason. Ad 25% of +900K and suddenly you can now put 1,000,000 package m3 ships of a certain variety and take them into highsec. |

Freighters are supposed to be the ship that sacrifices everything for cargohold. And judging by their proliferation in hisec, that suits most people there just fine. None of the suggested ideas in this thread will even make freighters more survivable, just speed up the hauling process for hisec freighter autopiloters. |
