Hello I am fairly new to EVE and joined a Player Run Corporation a few days into my trial ( I have since upgraded). Some supposed drama broke out between the then CEO and the recruiter ( I say supposed as after that last few days, I am not so sure it even really happened....Only heard about it second hand from the then CEO).
While I and my husband (we both started playing and joined the Corp at the same time) were gone to work this week, the supposed drama was playing out and the CEO and his little Wifey created tons of shares for themselves (18million or more by our estimate) withdrew all the money from the Corp Wallets (all but about 1.5mil anyways), opened quite a few offices where rent is due, and bailed! Leaving my husband as CEO and me as his "second-in-command"/accountant........... Now they have removed us from addressbooks and refuse to respond to any inquiries we have made in attempting to find out what has happened/what is going on.
It was a beautifully orchestrated scam...I must say that for them. The former CEO has now made yet another Corporation (not very creative with his Corp names however lol) and I assume is trying to do it again. That however is not the issue, the issue is that they are "holding hostage" the shares that they created and took (at least 18mil....maybe more if the other chars we think are their alts were added in). They want approximately 36million isk for the return of the shares....36 million isk is ALOT for new players all fresh off the trial. We have 3-4 people who have been playing EVE a little longer that were in the corp and also the unfortunate recipient of this deal and they are attempting to work with us to fix all the damage done and perhaps make the Corp a successful one.
My question is....We have tried to do votes to increase shares, thereby diluting their shares (yea, its gonna take alot to dilute nearly 20mil shares) but they failed...62-37%. Does the former CEO, having that many shares, still get to vote even though he is not in the Corp anymore? If so that would seem to mean that there is no way to repair the damage in that area.
Is it worth it to continue on and try to repair the damage caused in the last week and attempt to make the Corp a successful one? Or would it be better just to jump ship now?
Thank you in advance for any help and insight anyone can give on this situation!

Just create a new corp and have all your players from the old one quit it and join the new one, and prosper together.
It is likely just another scam, where he lets you rebuild and then forces a vote for CEO for one of his alts in the corp to grab all your stuff again.

Any Share holder can vote in Corporation votes even with not being a member of that corp.
Best bet, as the other poster said, create a new corp, have all members join it. You then control the shares and the old CEO won't be able to do a thing. If you stay, the old CEO can retake control as long as he has over 51% of the shares.

More likely is that they still have an alt in your corp which holds shares. Afaik, and I'll test it in a minute, a non-corp member cannot vote but will still recieve any dividend payout.

Never give out shares unless you absolutely must.
I second the advice given above: create a new corp.
One thing I learned running a corp was to keep roles to a minimum. Do not hand them out as rewards or marks of status, but only as needed to get specific tasks done, and then revoke them.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

When they left the corp their shares became completely useless. You can only vote if you're a member of the corporation. However they can create alts and try to get them into corp and pass on shares to these alts. So just to be on the safe side make a new corp.

Edited by: Sopha Serpentia on 11/05/2008 19:53:01 This is the worst scam in the history of eve here a few bullet points to help you out.
Your not tied to your corp, you can leave and make a new one.
NPCs never claw money out of your wallet, the issue with the officves is a no brainer, just don't pay.
Nobody in eve bothers with giving out all those roles, its pointless unless your in a huge corp of 300+ with 50 actives on or more at any one time. All you really need is a CEO and a director you know in RL (spouce is good)
Shares don't really do anything
36 million isk is a joke. Can't even by a HAC for 36 million...nubs.
My advice is that of my fellows above, leave your corp and remake, your ex-ceo can ransom an empty corp then.

You can see who your 'shareholders' are via the corp wallet under the 'shares' tab.

I am aware that we can make a new corp.
There is no "issue" with the offices. We have already consolidated and culled out the unnecessary offices that aren't worth the money.
We have roles so that there is clear understanding and order. Various jobs have been doled out among various corp members. The titles are so other members know who to go to for what.
As for shares, we just don't want to be paying out dividends to the former CEO and his alts, as he has gleaned enough money from this whole ordeal.
Thanks for your input tho :)
36mil may be a joke to you, but for the people in our corp, we barely have 2mil at the moment, we are pretty much all new players still learning the game. So yes, we are nubs. .....Without noobs there could be no veterans, all veterans were noobs at some point in time.

Edited by: Sekhmet Orion on 11/05/2008 22:26:21 So you tried to become a CEO of a corp, while still wet behind the ears.
Someone with better game knowledge ripped you off.
Welcome to EVE.
If you do not have the ability to defend your corp, or run it successfully, then just don't try to run one.
36mil IS a joke, and if you had bothered to play the game for more than 5 mins, instead of trying to form a corp with your "hubby", then you would be farming level 4's like everyone else, while they chuckle at your limp wallet.
Am waiting for the "OMG we have been war decced" thread next...
Edit: Serious advice, learn to play the game first. Disband your corp, make some money, become self sufficient.

Umm....did not try to start a corp, we joined a corp (as many ppl do) and one day while we were gone they appointed us to CEO. We had been off of trial maybe a day and were just mosey-ing around figuring out the game.
Serious Advice: Learn to actually read what you are responding to.

you best bet is to simply jump ship. start a new corp and carry over all the people you trust. do not bandy out roles or shares to people as this always leads to trouble.
while you are small only one or two of your corp hangars should be accessible to all and only with stuff of little value, random mission loot and such for people to fit easy cheap ships.
as you develop you will see the need to partition your corp further and further. always try to maintain monetary and hangar control to CEO and directors (you and your husband) it cuts down the risk of you being ripped off, which like it or not will more than likely happen. The wallet groups were a great addition to the game that allows you to give specific groups of people a wad of cash to play with.
name and shame, there are people out there who have suffered similar fates and would only be too happy to inflict damage on people like this.

I often read, but never post in CAOD. Today I decided I should.
Take everything out of the corp wallets, hangers, everything, IMMEDIATELY. Unfortunately if blueprints are locked, they're lost as you won't get the votes to unlock them.
Once you have everything secured, mail your members and let them know you're forming a new corp. Get the new corp formed and get everyone moved across. Kick everyone from the corp and when you leave as CEO and the last corp member, the corp will cease to exist (so will any blueprints he's planning on taking back).
While the ex-CEO holds the shares, the corp can be stolen from you.

The corp can in theory, be "saved", yea. Problem would of couse be the original scamming creator could try to "ninja" a vote now and then with alts who joined, and made votes while CEO's and directors was on vacation, etc.
Simplest i think would be to secure the corp for a while (gain majority, etc), and plan to make a second corp after some time ,to avoid voting issues.

Since it seems like you are new, you probably still have 2 spaces to make extra characters on your accounts. You and your wife make more characters, have them join your corp, then they can be included in the vote in hopes of evening out any votes there may be in the future. I really don't know if it would work, but just an idea I had. Good luck with your endeavours.

Don't want to sound flamey, but this is wrong. Unless they've changed it in the last couple of patches, I've got shares in an old corp and can still vote every time.
The reason your votes are failing is because not voting counts as a "no" vote. All your ex-ceo has to do is not vote and you'll never be able to create more shares.
Personally, I'd reverse the blackmail and demand 360 million to stop you naming and shaming him here. There's enough people already willing to go make his life a misery in this thread that you should be good for a few well-kitted cruisers all round

Actually, abstaining from a vote doesn't count either way. If the only vote is the CEO who has no shares, the vote passes. So if it is failing, those who own the shares are voting him down.
