How about an option to strip out all the foofy graphics clear the textures caches, and go to a wireframe model? I think a large number of people would appreciate this option for fleet battles.
Heck I'd probably play in that mode all the time - the whole "space has pastel background colors" thing has confused me from the first day I played anyhow *grin*
Well, I've said my piece - wait, is that Veldspar over there? Woot! |

Less QQ, and more Pew Pew
=D
Actually, I think there should be more focus on the space view. Already there is too little emphasis on what ships look like, and more on where they are on the Overview.
Is there anyone who actually watches the combat in space, or are you among the others whose hands hover over F keys while your mouse navigates the Overview list of potential wrecks.

Actually when I get near big blobs of ships whether PC or NPC, I zoom as far back as I possibly can, so I can't see any graphics anyhow.
If I'm doing cov ops work then I keep the camera close enough to visually avoid stuff that might decloak me, otherwise I have to turn everything on in overview - and that is not a good thing to do in a major fleet op.

Even outside fleet battles I would really love a feature like this.
Pretty graphics are nice when you are siteseeing, but all those light backgrounds against white text and targeting iconcs (or even worse, interfering with the white tactical overlay) something more abstract like wireframe would be REALLY nice.

At least give us an option to turn of that annoying background. Or just tell us where the files for the backgrounds are so we can delete them manually.

That would work too (though just deleting the files would probably result in a textureless white background, which would be bad)... but personally I would rather the option to either set them to black or replace them with a simple starscape.
I actually find the backgrounds really kill immersion for me (which is ironic considering CCP is trying so hard to increase immersion with ambulation)... the atmospheric effects around stars and the 'nebula everywhere independent of where you are' look, while pretty, does not make me think 'big cold space'.. it more makes me think '50s technicolour flash gordon'
