I'm starting to get miffed logging in.
Specifically the point during "Authenticating" at about 50% progress where you can't alt tab, or do anything.
It takes roughly 30-90 seconds to pass this stage and well, I'm starting to get sick of it.
Is it just me? Any word from CCP on why I can't even alt tab to start media player or whatever at this point?
Its obviously nothing major, but very frustrating.

Edited by: Amastat on 13/05/2008 07:52:46 Dunno; I've never had it that slow unless the server has been having issues. It tends to take me no more then 10-15 seconds to fully login the character screen AND into the game itself.
If it's not the server you may want to double check your own internet. A simple reboot can clear a lot of things, including this problem; wither your internet seemed like it was the issue or not. ____________________

Has something to do with either your capture folder (chatslogs, gamelogs etc.) or your cache folder.
I say this because everytime I reinstall clean (uninstall + remove cache + remove logs) it does the login instantly.

its your cache folder. Every time you click on a character you save its picture into cache, every time you visit a system you load it into cache, every time blah blah. My authenticating time is just like yours, except I empty my cache one a month. To do that, while in game, press esc and look for the 'clear cache' tab. Works wonders for me

Why does caching has anything to do with authentication? I don't get it... Normally you would cache some data or pictures so the serverload get's reduced but what does he do with the cache when authenticating? does he send the cached date back to the server so he would know what you cached? ------------------------------ Eve-online guide collection Web based version |

Edited by: Frug on 13/05/2008 08:25:46 I'm pretty sure it authenticates a lot of the stuff that has been cached for security reasons.
That cache folder gets big, but it also can get corrupted if the game crashes (I'm pretty sure because this happened to me many times). After something goes wrong with the cache folder it can take forever to authenticate.
Don't worry about why eve is coded the way it is. Just delete the cache folder because it's full of junk. And while you're at it, delete the massively bloated log folder.

Ok cheers. Been a while since I last removed my cache, but will try that and update this post.
