Yeah there was, well, there must be - it's gotta catch all those space-mice.

Edited by: P''uck on 14/05/2008 13:27:22 I wonder how much mass you could mine off the moon and if it ever would have a noticeable effect on earth.
If its possible to change the tides on earth by removing everything thats worth a dime from moon...well... you dont exactly have to bring all off the riches down, do you?
edit: THAT IS NO MOON!

Please, look at the formulae for the relative gravitational force between two bodies. Also, the geological composition of the moon. We could safely mine anything worth mining, and besides, the Moon is constantly gaining weight due to asteroid impacts.

You know the mooon is actually moving away from the Earth. As both the Earth and the moon are both increasing in mass due to impacts of space stuff, won't the gravitational forces be increasing between the two? Will we start to reel it back in again? Will we have to blow bits of it or us into outer space to restore the balance?
Could we speed up the moon so it's orbit doesn't deteriorate? (spelling?)

Again, the mass of the impacting bodies is entirely negligible (even if their impact force is quite large due to their velocity) compared to the forces that push the lunar orbit away. ***************************** Love is like a war - easy to start, hard to continue, impossible to forget. |
