I remember at one time that CCP mentioned that there was an attempt to bring CAOD-like news to the Player News Center, but they ran into issues which were something along the lines of player disagreement with the information presented.
What were the problems? What were the possible solutions to the problems? Now that we have the Council, can we overcome these issues? Do any of the Council candidates support this idea?
There are plenty of exciting and interesting events going on in the capsuler community which are shaping the 0.0 and which are in my personal opinion the stuff that matters and stuff to tell stories about.
I understand that there are some of you who enjoy the storyline with types of "news" like "BREAKING NEWS: Ishukone CEO pleads for calm, denounces Tibus Heth", but given the likely 50% of empire players who don't give a damn about anything but the game itself but could care about CAOD-like topics, 30% (and growing) amount of 0.0 players who actually care, 5% of Farmers who don't even understand English, I think that it may be a good time to re-iterate this subject and see if there is a solution to this.
So again, I personally would love to see REAL periodic player news cleaned out of OMGZ's and regular smack (off)topics! Can anyone, including moderators help crank this issue?

I think that they are bringing some of the news but I think that they are restricted on what they can report on due to above mentioned reasons. ------------------------------------------------ (Recruiting ad) SRBI regrutuju! Dodjite na nas javni SRBI kanal. Kontakt Soder/Me West |

*Connects the sewage pipe to the player news centre*
The news reported in the player news centre is typically tabloid style any way. I've seen some terrible biased reports that only provide a one-sided story with no attempt at accuracy, or to even contact any of the other parties involved.
I would like to see less reporting of player activities and just stick to the RP news (unless the quality of reporting is significantly improved).

Exactly, I was looking (and I believe most of us) for a "version" of CAOD with some effort to verify facts, as Leech says, and with filtered out cr4p like your reply to my topic attempting to derail it and clutter it with useless characters, so other meaningful discussions can be obscured.
But then, some news may be taken as-is, as the "Triumvirate Closing" news. There's no need to verify official announcements. ------------------------------------------------ (Recruiting ad) SRBI regrutuju! Dodjite na nas javni SRBI kanal. Kontakt Soder/Me West |

I see what you're getting at. I believe if the reporting was done as you described there would be some merit. Most of the people outside of whatever action is going on aren't really sure of what is happening. Some even believe the jibber jabber propaganda spouted by various alliances.
I don't know how people would feel about it but you could have any style from infotainment to serious documentary reporting. Snippets of interviews with unknown players, eve personalities and ceo's would make for more down to earth reporting. I'd prefer that to opinion piece reporting that looks like someone was struggling with a deadline from their propaganda wing.

There is just one problem with it... politics...
Each engagement has at least two diffrent sides to it. Two diffrent viewpoints. Whose shall be reportet?
While alliance A may say "we killed the uber special ship of alliance b while he was sitting in a pos, we win the war surely before christmas" the other side could be "we lost the ship, because the pilot had to extinguish a fire that broke out in his kitchen. our resolve is stronger than ever, funds have been raised and we surely will win the war before the day before christmas"
So who should decide which news should make it? and perhaps more importantly, who will deal with the cries of those whose side is not represented?

You report it like a reporter. Report the storys of both sides and let the reader make up their mind what is going on. The reporter should not present their own opinion (eg. like the way ISD report news).
For infotainment the news that makes it is that which will get clicks, for documentatary style the reporting can have an investigative perspective.
In terms of the "cries" of those who are not represented. Say for example if only one side in a two party conflict is presented either; let the other side have their say, or publish a retraction and apology.
Open reporting will generate less friction with the playerbase than the "control freak" style reporting that you are suggesting.

The current ISD reporters should use more sound bytes taken out of context to make the reporting more realistic.
Breaking News: Kamen says empire players are stupid! "50% of empire players... don't even understand English".

I'm liking where this is going. However, it would require that the reporters are creative, have personality and a sense of humour.
How would a defamation war dec be handled?
